What’s new on Netflix (April 2019)

April is just around the corner, folks, and a new month means people wondering what's new on Netflix. In April 2019, the company's bringing an exciting mix of classic films and TV, and new originals sure to delight audiences of all ages and types.

Here are a few highlights for April 2019.

April 5 – The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina part 2

Netflix's hit supernatural teen thriller set in the Riverdale universe returns April 5. In Part 2, Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) will have to try even harder to maintain the balance between her life in the mortal world and life as a witch. Now that she's signed her name in the book of the beast, life's about to get more complicated for the teenage witch and her friends. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina offers drama, thrills, and occasionally goofy fun.

April 5 – Unicorn Store

Hot off their pairing in March's Captain Marvel, Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson are back in Larson's directorial debut. Shot before Captain Marvel was made, Unicorn Store is a comedy that follows failed artist Kit (Larson) as she encounters a salesman (Jackson) working at "the store" who offers to sell her one of her childhood fantasies: a unicorn. It's new on Netflix on April 5, same as Sabrina.

April 10 – The Silence

The Silence - New on Netflix

Image via IMDB.

Yet another horror thriller where monsters attack humans for using one of their primary senses, The Silence is a sci-fi thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world where bat-like creatures have driven humanity to the brink of extinction. Even the faintest sound will attract swarms of the things, so survivors live in almost complete silence. If that sounds familiar, it's because A Quiet Place did something very similar barely a year ago, and Bird Box tackled a similar concept, but swapped out sound for sight.

Derivative though it may seem, the film's got a great cast. It stars Kiernan Shipka, Stanley Tucci, Miranda Otto, and John Corbett, so it could well be great.

Of course, there's even more coming down the pipe than just these, so here a list of everything new on Netflix for the month, and everything leaving.

The best and worst April Fools' Day tech gags of 2019

April Fools' Day is here, bringing clever and cringeworthy gags in equal measure.

April Fools' Day is here, and that means a day full of gags as tech brands try to outdo one another. Google in particular likes to go all-out on this day, and while the search giant has created some truly memorable gags over the years — like the Google Gnome — but there was also the infamous mic drop.

Without further ado, here are the best and worst April Fools' Day tech gags of 2019.

Play Snake within Google Maps

Once again, Google is kicking things off with a new feature coming to Maps. Starting today, you'll be able to play Snake from within Google Maps, and you can choose from a variety of cities:

Google Maps shows you how to get around on foot, car, train and bicycle, and now, you can ssslither to your destination too. Starting today, you can play a twist on the snake game in different locations across the world—including Cairo, London, San Francisco, São Paulo, Sydney and Tokyo–right from Google Maps.

To get started, launch Google Maps, tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines on the top left), and hit the Play Snake button. If you don't see the feature just yet, wait for the clock to switch over to April 1 in your timezone. Google also has a dedicated website for Snake that will continue to be active "long after April Foolsss is over."

Google's Files app now cleans your phone inside and out

Files by Google does a great job removing unused apps and clutter from your device's internal storage, but what about the outside of your phone? Google is introducing a new screen cleaner feature that will "wash away smudges and polish your screen." Google says screen cleaner uses the "smudge detector API" to identify imperfections using geometric dirt models and a haptic micromovement generator.

OnePlus teases latest upcoming collaboration with McLaren

OnePlus partnered with McLaren over a limited edition 6T, and now the Chinese manufacturer is all set to roll out its latest collaboration. This one probably won't come under $1,000 though.

Get your groove on with Spotify's Discocover Weekly

Is your Discover Weekly playlist a bit off this week? You're not alone, as Spotify's weekly playlist is getting a disco makeover for April Fools' Day. The streaming service even changed the name to Discocover Weekly, which I didn't notice the first time.

Sony restructures mobile unit, shuts down manufacturing plant in China

Sony is consolidating its business units into a new Electronics Products & Solutions division.

It's no secret that Sony hasn't fared well in the mobile space for a few years. Sony tried to stem the losses by pulling out of the budget segment and switching focus to the premium segment, but that hasn't been enough. According to Reuters, Sony's mobile business recorded a loss of $863 million in 2018, selling just 6.5 million phones over the year.

To put things into context, Huawei announced last week that it netted $52 billion from its consumer business in 2018, with the manufacturer recording an overall revenue of $107 billion. Sony, meanwhile, now has a global market share just under 1%, and the company is shutting down a major production facility in Beijing.

Going forward, Sony will rely on its Thailand manufacturing facility for phones, and the company is adamant that it will not sell off the mobile unit. Sony will once again trim its workforce, this time by a projected 50%, leading to 2,000 cuts. The goal for Sony is reducing overhead as it tries to become profitable in the mobile space.

To that effect, Sony is consolidating multiple businesses into a single unit, with the Imaging Products & Solutions, Home Entertainment & Sound, and Mobile Communications businesses merging to form the Electronics Products & Solutions unit.

Shigeki Ishizuka — who ran the imaging unit — will now oversee the Electronics Products & Solutions business. The change is set to go into effect starting April 1, and Sony is projecting that its restructuring efforts will make the mobile business profitable by April 2020. We've heard similar projections in the past, and Sony is now running out of time to turn its fortunes around.

Moshi's Mythro C USB Type-C earphones are well worth the $50 price tag

The 3.5mm headphone jack is now the exception instead of the standard in the flagship smartphone world. Many consumers have turned to Bluetooth options, but there are still some folks who prefer wired audio. If you're in the latter camp and you hate dealing with dongles, you'll probably want a set of USB Type-C headphones.

Several USB-C earphones have appeared on the market in the past year or so. I very much enjoy using the noise-cancelling Libratone Q Adapt that we reviewed last year, though the $149 price tag might put it out of reach for many.

Keep a close eye on the tips for your Galaxy Buds

Best answer: If you need to get replacement tips and rings for the Galaxy Buds, you will need to reach out to Samsung's support. The company currently does not offer replacements for purchase on its storefront or Amazon.

Customer Service, here we come

The Samsung Galaxy Buds have been out for a few weeks at this point, and these are some of the most impressive truly-wireless earbuds on the market. Not only do you get a great fit with the earbuds and wing tips, but Samsung also introduced PowerShare to use your smartphone to charge the Galaxy Buds.

Speaking of those earbuds and wing tips, this is a rather interesting design in order to keep the Buds actually in your ears, regardless of what you are doing. However, there is a slight issue if you ever need to replace the ear, or wing, tips. Unlike the Samsung Gear Icon X (2018), you cannot purchase replacement tips for the Galaxy Buds through Samsung's online storefront.

Instead, you will need to reach out to Samsung Support, in order to order a new set of replacement tips for your Galaxy Buds. This is rather frustrating, but as is the case with new products, this could change in the future. One big proponent of supporting different headphone tips is Comply Foam, but this company does not yet have an option for the new Galaxy Buds.

The Galaxy Buds could end up being the best headphones of 2019.

Samsung's new Galaxy Buds may be just a slight change over its predecessor on paper, but Samsung has done its homework and improved many of the qualms users had, especially when it comes to keeping these buds in your ears during workouts or strenuous activities.

The best microSD cards for Android

A microSD card lets you easily move your files, photos, and music from device to device without having to rely on steady Wi-Fi or costly data. It also helps if you like to load your phone up with apps, music and movies. These are the best microSD cards you can buy for your Android phone.

All-around winner

Samsung EVO Select

Staff Pick

Samsung's high-performance EVO Select is the perfect blend of fast read and write speeds (100MB/s and 90MB/s, respectively) and affordability. This card comes with a full-size SD adapter, and its high class means it can handle all types of media, including 4K video.

$40 at Amazon

Speed demon

Lexar Professional 1000x

If speed is of utmost importance to you because you're constantly shooting high-def video or whatever, then this is the card you want. It has transfer speeds of up to 150MB/s, meaning it can hand 4K and even 3D video, as well as all the high-res images and music you can throw at it. It's pricey for a 64 GB card, but worth it for performance alone.

$34 at Amazon

Solid performance

SanDisk Extreme

The SanDisk Extreme has blazing fast read speeds of up to 160MB/s (in certain scenarios) and write speeds of up to 90MB/s, capable of handling 4K video, high-res photos, and large files without issue.

$30 at Amazon

Budget pick

Silicon Power Elite

If simple storage is what you need and price is your biggest motivator, then the Silicon Power Elite card should be enough. It's still a Class 10 card, so it can handle HD video (albeit somewhat slowly), but the best thing about it is that you can get a 128GB version for fairly cheap.

$18 at Amazon

SanDisk silver medal

SanDisk Ultra

SanDisk's Ultra series isn't as high-performance as the Extreme, but its 100MB/s transfer speeds are still adequate. Since this is a U1 class card, it can't really handle 4K video expediently, but 1080p is more than fine.

$32 at Amazon

Also great

Samsung EVO

Affordable and with solid performance, the Samsung EVO card is perfect for the casual users who just want to store their physical music and some files. It has read speeds of up to 100MB/s and write speeds of up to 60MB/s, with Samsung's 10-year warranty in case anything goes wrong.

$15 at Amazon

Your Android phone's onboard storage may be enough for you, but if you want to easily take music, photos, videos, and files from phone to phone with you, then a microSD card is a great option. And if you regularly fill up your phone's storage with apps, a card can help take some of that weight. For all intents and purposes, the Samsung EVO Select is the best microSD card for most people.

10 best video editor apps for Android! (Updated 2019)

best video editor apps for Android
Video editing is one of the heaviest tasks that a device can perform. On computers, it requires decent specs, tons of RAM, tons of storage, and some know-how on how to make it work. Phones do not have the specs or power to replicate experiences like Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro. However, some apps can do the basic stuff pretty well. It's even good enough for some pro vlogging with some patience. Here are the best video editor apps on Android, at least until Premiere Rush CC makes it to Android. You can also click here to see the best video editors on most platforms!

ActionDirector Video Editor

Price: Free / $3.99
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
ActionDirector is one of the most popular video editing apps on PC. It's also available on Android. It does the basics. You can import clips, edit them, and render the video. You can do things like add your own music, trim and cut video, add text, employ slow motion, and more. It's one of the few video editor apps that also supports 4K video. You'll have to check and see if your device supports it, though. The developers have a nifty tool linked in the Google Play Store to see if yours can. It also gets frequent updates.

Adobe Premiere Clip

Price: Free
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Adobe Premiere Clip is one of the big names when it comes to video editor apps. It has a laundry list of features, including the ability to auto-generate videos using your images and video if you don't want to do it yourself. If that's not your thing, you can edit your video manually using a variety of tools, effects, and music. The app boasts that you can use your own music but some users have found this process to be difficult. It does sync and work with Adobe Premiere Pro so you can start a project on one and continue on the next one. However, you'll need an Adobe Creative Cloud account to make all the syncing work.

FilmoraGo - Free Video Editor

Price: Free / $7.99
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
FilmoraGo is a video editor app by Wondershare. It's easily one of the best video editor apps. This video editor packs a whallop. You can do the basics like trim and cut, render, and that kind of stuff. It also includes the ability to play in reverse, do square videos (1:1) for Instagram, and 16:9 videos for YouTube specifically. It also has support for things like slow motion, transitions, music, overlays, and more. It's not half bad for what you get. There are in-app purchases that add to the power. However, most of the features are, in fact, free.

Funimate Video Editor and Effects

Price: Free with in-app purchases
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Funimate is one of the surprisingly popular, but not overly powerful video editor apps. It bills itself as being a great app for making music videos or simple videos out of the stuff you already have on your device. There are 15 video filters that you can play with and the creation process is fairly painless. This isn't something you'd want to use on a serious video. It has things like video effects. However, it's better for short little social media posts rather than actual video production. You can download it for free to try it out yourself.

Funimate Video Editor and Effects

KineMaster

Price: Free / $4.99 per month
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
KineMaster is one of the most powerful video editor apps available. You can do the basics like most of these other video editors can. However, this one includes multiple video, image and effect layers. Additionally, there are audio filters, chroma key (for your green screen fans out there), various video effects, transitions, and more. It's not as powerful as a full desktop editor. However, this gets much closer than most other competitors. We would recommend this for actual video production (at least for stuff like YouTube). You can use it for free in trial mode for a while. However, you'll need the $4.99 per month subscription to get everything forever.
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY

Movie Maker Filmmaker

Price: Free
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Movie Maker Filmmaker among the best free video editor apps currently available. You'll be able to trim, crop, and reorder video content as well as set focal points. The app also boasts a variety of video effects and you can design your own custom filters, although that functionality isn't amazingly powerful. It also has the rest of the basics, like music. The app has struggled with some bug issues since it's major redesign, but it's still one of the better video editing apps out there. It's also completely free with ads.
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY

PowerDirector

Price: Free / $5.99
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
PowerDirector is one of the most comprehensive video editor apps on this list. It comes with a ton of features, including quick editing tools, various effects and other tools, and it even comes with things like a collage maker and slow motion support. The interface is relatively easy to work with and it utilizes the classic timeline editor method. It should be more familiar for those who video edit often. It's free to download and use, but you'll need to fork out some extra money to get all the features. This is a for real video editor, especially for larger screens like Chromebooks or tablets.

Quik

Price: Free

Quik is from a newer generation of video editor apps. It's halfway decent if you need something simple. The way it works is you add up to 50 photos and video clips into the app. The app then analyzes them and spits out a short video from them. Quik contains about two dozen video styles and you can re-order and customize your video before you export it. It's not nearly as powerful as something like Adobe Premiere Clip or PowerDirector, but not everyone needs something that intense. It's free to download with no in-app purchases.

VivaVideo is one of the exceptionally popular video editing apps. In practice, though, it's a very middle-of-the-road video editor. It works especially well for short clips for social media. The app uses a storyboard style of editing where you load clips, edit and trim them as needed, and then move on to the next segment. It includes over 200 video filters and various other effects, text input, and fast and slow motion support. VivaVideo has a free version that comes with a watermark and a time limit for any given video. You can remove these restrictions by buying the pro version.

VideoShow Video Editor is one of the more popular video editing apps. It's a simple video editor that lets you do the basic stuff like trim video, organize your clips, and add music. You'll also find some additional features like the ability to add emoji and text to videos and a variety of video effects to make things a little more fun. It's great for stuff like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, but it's not powerful enough for bigger productions. You'll want to check out something else for that. The app is free to download and use with some additional stuff available as in-app purchases.
