When trying to perform a search for a particular bit of information in your email, oftentimes the info you're looking for is buried deep within a larger conversation. Whether you're looking for a restaurant location, an important meeting time or a flight confirmation number, the search functionality in some of our email clients doesn't always do the trick. This is why today Google is rolling out an update to the Inbox by Gmail app that will make finding important information much faster and easier.
Now when you perform a search for a frequent flyer number or shipping status, Inbox will show the most important bit of info at the top of the search results. This means you'll no longer have to dig through individual emails to find that small bit of info you're looking for. Inbox will also now show you a "Top results" section when performing a search, that will order your emails by relevance. Below the "Top results" section sits an "All results" section, which will order your emails by date.
After using this new feature for just a few minutes, I can say it works very well. I was able to find both my USPS tracking number and a friend's address with ease. If you're interested, follow the link below to grab the latest version of Inbox by Gmail.
