T-Mobile will announce its next major Uncarrier move on Sep. 6

T-Mobile will be making an announcement 'you don't want to miss.'

T-Mobile will be revealing its next Uncarrier move on September 6. The teaser video for the upcoming event is deceptively vague — with CEO John Legere carrying a script titled "Un-carrier Next" — but the video description says that T-Mobile is "going to flip the wireless industry" on its head.

T-Mobile switched on its 600Mhz network last month, with the LG V30 the first device to sport Band 71. The company also rolled out its latest self-branded device, the REVVL.

There's no indication as to what T-Mobile will be targeting with its next Uncarrier move, but Legere dropped a few hints during last quarter's earnings call, saying that the carrier will fix a "gigantic shortcoming:"

If I announce the topical area that we think is gigantically poised for fixing, it may give away too much as to what the topic is. But there's one that we're working on that we'll do this quarter that is so intuitively obvious of a gigantic shortcoming of the wireless industry that we're going to attack it, and we're going to attack it soon.

The Un-carrier Next will kick off on September 6 at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET, and you'll be able to watch the livestream here.

Xiaomi's upcoming phone in India will be the first in an all-new series

Xiaomi could unveil its first Android One phone in India next week.

Xiaomi is all set to introduce a new phone in India on September 5, and teasers from earlier this week hinted at the Mi 5X, which sports the same dual camera setup as the flagship Mi 6. However, it looks like that won't be the case, as Xiaomi has confirmed in a new tweet that the upcoming phone will the first device in an entirely new series.

A rumor from last month suggested Xiaomi was working with Google over an Android One device, and given that the company's upcoming event in India is being dubbed a "Xiaomi global launch," we could see the first Xiaomi phone powered by stock Android.

The Android One theory gets stronger when you consider that the device — allegedly called the Xiaomi Mi A1 — is based on the Mi 5X, sporting dual cameras at the back. With the launch set for next Tuesday, we don't have to wait long to find out what Xiaomi has in store.

What do you guys think the upcoming phone will be?

Sphero announces R2-D2 and BB-9E remote control droids

Sphero's BB-8 remote control toy was a massive hit when it was released in 2015, partially because it was a great product, but also because the hype machine for The Force Awakens was at full speed. Now that another main series Star Wars film is on the way, it only makes sense that Disney would again partner with Sphero. Except this time, there are two of them.

The first new product is a recreation of one of the original Star Wars droids, R2-D2.

TeamViewer QuickSupport adds support for some Motorola devices

TeamViewer is an invaluable tool for IT professionals and slightly tech-savy people alike. Instead of trying to explain to your tech-illiterate friend or family member how to fix a computer problem, you can just get them far enough to download the QuickSupport client and take over from there. But due to Android app restrictions, the QuickSupport Android app only works on devices with a special component added to the ROM (normal screen sharing works on all Android 5.0+ devices).

T-Mobile set to show off its next Uncarrier moves on September 6

From killing off contracts and bringing back unlimited data plans to a rewards program, T-Mobile's Uncarrier events tend to include some sort of significant progression for the magenta-colored carrier. That trend looks to continue with T-Mobile's upcoming Uncarrier Next event, which the magenta-colored carrier with a predictably-vague teaser video.

The video did not say much of anything about what the event might entail, but rumors peg a program that will reduce the prices of flagship smartphones like the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and LG V30, among others. It will reportedly replace T-Mobile's JUMP! program and target those who pay for a smartphone outright.

There are also rumors that T-Mobile will launch a self-branded flagship smartphone, which itself is rumored to be part of the carrier's Revvl series. T-Mobile already announced the Revvl, which mainly sticks to the low-end, and our sources emphasized that two more powerful Revvl devices are in the works, so an unveiling at Uncarrier Next is not outside the realm of possibility.

Even if the Uncarrier Next event does not amount to much, T-Mobile has already had a busy 2017. The carrier succeeded in purchasing the 600 Mhz spectrum that should appreciably expand its US coverage, with the recently-announced V30 the first phone to support the new network.

Still, we will keep close tabs on Uncarrier Next and report back with all the bits. The event is slated to kick off on Wednesday, September 6 at 8:00am PST (11:00am EST).

Google encourages developers to make standalone Android Wear apps

One of Android Wear 2.0's marquee features is its support for standalone apps. This eliminates the need to constantly have your phone nearby to send data to your smartwatch apps, since they can now function like your typical smartphone app. As nice as standalone apps are, they remained exclusive to Android Wear 2.0 until today, when Google announced that standalone apps also work with Android Wear 1.0.

Diving into the policy change requires a bit of context, which is where multi-APKs come in. In short, they enable standalone watch apps and faces to exist because they separate an Android Wear app from its corresponding smartphone app. Not only do multi-APKs allow developers to create standalone watch apps, but also allow iOS users to experience Android Wear apps – keep in mind that Android Wear watches can connect to iPhones.

As such, the policy change that allows developers can now use multi-APKs for Android Wear 1.0 watches means that the feature is no longer exclusive to Android Wear 2.0. It also means that Google wants as many standalone Android Wear apps in as many places as possible, particularly when it comes to reaching iOS folks:

This is critical to providing apps not only to our Android users, but also iOS users – which is increasingly important as we continue to expand our diverse ecosystem of watches and users.

As for the actual policy, Google's push for developers to unbundle their Android Wear APKs from their mobile apps will start on January 18, 2018. This includes watch faces and complication data providers. Once developers do so, their apps will have the "Enhanced for Android Wear" badge on the Play Store.

T-Mobile's next big move will be announced on September 6th at Un-carrier Next

Love him or hate him, John Legere has done a lot for T-Mobile since he took the reins in late 2012. The company's latest announcement, entitled Un-carrier Next, has been set for September 6th, and from the video T-Mobile uploaded onto its YouTube channel, it looks like it'll be something big.

The 26-second long video features a team rushing to get something shot. Someone knocks on and opens the door to Legere's room, where he is looking through a script entitled "UN-CARRIER NEXT." Legere then comes out, picks a jacket, answers a crew member's "Are you ready for this?" with an enthusiastic "Oh hell yeah," and walks in front of the camera.

Essential Phone's mediocre photo quality can be fixed by a modified Google Camera APK

Even before the Essential Phone was released, we knew the camera wasn't going to be very good. Sure enough, once the phone got into the hands of reviewers, the camera was by far the most disappointing aspect of the device. But most of the problem doesn't appear to be with the camera sensor, but with Essential's software.

TheNextWeb recently posted its review of the Essential Phone, which of course paints the device's camera in a negative light (pun intended).
