- LG announced that the upcoming G7 ThinQ will feature a "Boombox Speaker" that allows for louder sound with more bass.
- The G7 ThinQ will also strengthen the headphone jack with audiophile-friendly features.
- LG plans to announce the G7 ThinQ May 2 in New York and May 3 in South Korea.
Having already teased the G7 ThinQ's incredibly bright display, LG turned its attention to another of the upcoming flagship's features: the "Boombox Speaker."
Speaking with Engadget, LG claimed the Boombox Speaker increases the sound level by over 6dB and doubles the bass output relative to a typical smartphone. As a nice bonus, you can place the G7 ThinQ on a flat surface or box to further amplify the bass.
LG accomplished this by having the Boombox Speaker rely on a special resonance chamber design within the G7 ThinQ. The chamber looks to be 10 times the size compared to previous generations and should allow for the aforementioned louder and bass-friendly sound.
LG did not say whether the G7 ThinQ will feature dual stereo speakers. The V30 and V30S ThinQ feature bottom-firing speakers, so here is hoping that the G7 ThinQ bucks the trend and features two speakers.
Whether it has one or two speakers, the G7 ThinQ will also feature a headphone jack. Quickly becoming extinct in the land of flagship smartphones, the G7 ThinQ's headphone jack will get help from the phone's Hi-Fi Quad DAC to satisfy high-end headphone users.
Even better, the G7 ThinQ supports DTS:X. The feature is seemingly a first for smartphones and brings 3D surround sound at up to 7.1, even for those that use regular headphones.
In all, LG promised that the G7 ThinQ will deliver stellar sound, whether you have headphones on or not. The company similarly made bold claims with the phone's display, so we will have to wait to use the G7 ThinQ for ourselves to see how the claims hold up.
LG will announce the G7 ThinQ May 2 in New York City and May 3 in South Korea.
