- The Snapchat redesign of its redesign is rolling out now to iOS users.
- Snapchat gave no word at all on when Android users can expect to see the updated app.
- The newest Snapchat redesign fixes some of the problems users had with the old redesign.
The refresh of Snapchat's much-loathed original redesign is rolling out to iOS users of the photo-sharing app right now, via The Verge.
But what about Android users? As usual, Android users have to wait, as Snapchat made no statement about the world's largest mobile OS getting the refreshed app.
Last fall, Snap redesigned the Snapchat app in an effort to make it easier for people who aren't already Snapchat fiends to understand and use the app. However, the redesign didn't bring in many new users, and the core users of Snapchat hated the redesign with a fiery passion.
As an example of how much young people especially hated the redesign, the chart below from YouGov BrandIndex is a clear indicator:
As if those numbers aren't scary enough, Snapchat reportedly lost $1.3 billion based on a solitary celebrity expressing their dissatisfaction with the new app.
The redesign of the redesign hopes to get things back on track. It brings back chronological sorting to photo feeds and moves Stories from your friends back to the right-hand side of the app. This will hopefully appease detractors of the redesign who felt the removal of these features ruined the app experience.
While it's excellent that Snap is listening to its user base and attempting to give them what they want, it's still infuriating to know that iOS users will get the refresh before Android users will. To add insult to injury, Snap has yet to disclose even an estimation of when the refresh of the app will hit the Google Play Store. It could be tomorrow, or it could be next year. Who knows?
