The Xiaomi Mi TV Stick is real, probably as powerful as the Mi Box S

Two weeks ago, we found a rumor suggesting a Xiaomi Mi TV Stick could be on the way. Now, the German division of Xiaomi has confirmed the existence of the device, even going as far as showing us exactly what it looks like in the image above.

Unfortunately, the German-language presentation on YouTube (h/t Android Police) doesn't give us much information on the new streaming dongle other than what you see above. However, we can extrapolate quite a bit about the Xiaomi Mi TV Stick just from that image. We also have previous rumors to work with.

First, you can very clearly see a Google Assistant button on the remote of the Mi TV Stick. That means the dongle will almost certainly ship with Android TV or some other Android derivative. Considering other Xiaomi-branded streaming boxes use Android TV as a platform, we're going to go ahead and assume that's what this will have.

Second, we can also clearly see Netflix and Amazon Prime Video buttons on the remote. This, combined with the German source of the image, suggests that the device should see a global launch rather than a localized release in certain areas of the world.

Finally, we can also use the previous rumors to assume that the Mi TV Stick will probably be as powerful as the Xiaomi Mi Box S. That means you'll probably get the same 4K HDR support, DTS-HD and Dolby Stereo Sound, and dual-band Wi-Fi support but in a much smaller package.

Knowing Xiaomi, the Mi TV Stick should also be pretty inexpensive. We heard a rumor that it would be $80, but that seems a bit high, considering the Mi Box S started at just $59. We'll need to wait and see what the company has in store.
