There's a plethora of Android Wear smartwatches out there, but very few manufacturers will venture into the world of standalone wearables. Omate smartwatches are special in that they run the full Android OS. They took the Omate Rise to Indiegogo, where they have been pretty successful in the past. And the strategy certainly works for then, as the funding goal was met in a mere 15 minutes.
What's next? They are activating their Indiegogo page once again to offer a special edition Omate Rise with support for Amazon's Alexa, the popular retailer's voice assistant. But those who want to benefit from Alexa will need to act quickly. Omate is only making 1,000 units, and three will be given away through Facebook (more details on Indiegogo).
Other Omate content:
- The Omate Rise is a tough, circular, 3G-connected smartwatch running Android
- Omate's new TrueSmart+ is a standalone wearable that runs Android 5.1 Lollipop
- Omate's Lutetia is a smartwatch designed with women in mind
If you haven't heard of the Omate Rise, it offers a true standalone experience, thanks to 3G support. It is powered by Android 5.1 Lollipop, a 1.3-inch 360 x 360 display, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage and a 580 mAh battery. And because it does run full Android, it can handle anything an actual smartphone does… albeit in a smaller form factor.
Interested? You can sign up for an Omate Rise with Amazon Alexa for as low as $199. This is not a bad deal considering the actual retail price will be set at $349 once the device is launched. But as we said, you gotta act fast! There's only 1,000 of these!
