Nest has announced the new Cam IQ indoor security camera that brings a bunch of new features to the table when compared to its predecessor. It has an 8 MP 4K sensor with 12x digital zoom and also comes equipped with two 940 nm infrared LEDs for night vision.
The camera has a new and improved speaker on board that is, at least according to the company, seven times more powerful than the one found on the standard Nest Cam. It sports three microphones with noise as well as echo cancellation and is made from a special plastic that helps disperse heat.
The great thing about the Cam IQ is that offers a few features that were previously only available to those with a Nest Aware subscription. It can, for example, easily identify people and send you an alert to your device, so you know who's walking around in your home. The device also supports picture-in-picture mode that gives you a closer look at individuals in the house as well as a view of the entire room. You can still get the Aware subscription with the camera, which adds a few extra useful features for $10 per month.
The Nest Cam IQ is already up for pre-order in a few countries around the world. In the US, it will set you back $299 or $498 if you get two of them. If you live in the UK, France, Netherlands, Belgium, or Ireland you'll have to dish out £299 or €349 to get it. Pre-orders in Germany, Austria, Italy, and Spain will start on June 13. Those of you interested can place your orders on the company's website via the button below.
