Before Apple releases its new iPhone generation later today, Qualcomm wants you to know all about a few notable world firsts on Android — features or technologies that made their debut on Android smartphones with the help of Qualcomm.
The company took what looks like a subtle shot at Apple by posting a list of these features on its website, which includes things like fast charging, dual-camera technology, augmented reality, OLED and 4K displays, and even the bezel-less design, which we'll likely see on one of the upcoming iPhones. Qualcomm is definitely correct, as certain Android smartphones have introduced new technologies with its help in the past and have later been used on iPhones. However, the funny thing about it is that Qualcomm isn't the best at remembering on which devices these technologies actually made their debut.
As 9to5Google reports, the list shows that the first smartphone with an OLED display was the LG G Flex, when in fact it was actually the original Galaxy S that was released way back in 2010. Qualcomm also seems to think that the HTC U11, Xiaomi Mi 6, and the LG V30 (that hasn't even been released yet) introduced Bluetooth 5 to the market. This is, of course, incorrect, as the first devices with this tech were actually the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.
The last mistake Qualcomm made is also the funniest one. According to the company, the first smartphone with a dual-camera setup was the HTC One M7, which, as you probably know, only has one camera on the back.
However, it is worth mentioning that Qualcomm did realize it made a few mistakes and has since updated the list on its website in order to look more knowledgeable — too late for that.
