Lenovo doubles down on Chromebooks in education with trio of devices

  • Lenovo announced the 500e, 300e, and 100e Chromebooks.
  • The 500e Chromebook is the higher-end model of the three, though the 300e and 100e can be equipped with Windows instead of Chrome OS.
  • The 500e Chromebook will be available this month, while the 300e and 100e Chromebooks will go on sale in February and March, respectively.

By some estimates, Google's Chrome OS occupies the top spot in the education market, outdoing the Mac, iPads, and Windows. That lead looks to get bigger, thanks to Lenovo's trio of Chromebooks that are aimed squarely at schools and classrooms.

First up is the 500e Chromebook (pictured above), which sports an 11.6-inch IPS display with HD resolution. You can flip the display around and use the included pressure-sensitive pen to jot down some notes or scribble some drawings. Unlike the Pixelbook, the 500e Chromebook features a compartment where the stylus can be tucked away.

Intel's quad-core Celeron N3450 processor powers the device, with the option to outfit it with up to 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Finally, the 500e Chromebook delivers up to 10 hours of battery life and weighs just under three pounds.

Next up is the 300e Chromebook, which also sports an 11.6-inch IPS display with HD resolution and 10 hours of battery life. MediaTek's MTK8173C processor powers the device, though the Windows model features Intel's Apollo Lake processors.

Only the Windows model includes pen support, though you can still use your fingers with the Chrome OS version.

Finally, the 100e Chromebook is the low-end model of the three and features an 11.6-inch anti-glare display with HD resolution. Intel's dual-core Celeron N3350 processor powers the device, which can be outfitted with either Windows or Chrome OS. Both versions look to net you up to 10 hours of battery life and weigh 2.7 pounds.

Lenovo says the 500e Chromebook will be available later this month and start at $349. The 300e Chromebook will be available in February and start at $279, while the 100e Chromebook will start at $219 when it goes on sale in March.
