Android P Beta 4 available for Essential Phone an hour after launch

  • The Android P Beta 4 launched this afternoon.
  • Only about an hour later, the Android P Beta 4 on the Essential Phone landed.
  • The Essential Phone is likely to be the first device (after Pixels) to get the stable version of Android P.

We announced the launch of the latest (and final) beta version of Android P only an hour ago. Now, here we are announcing that Android P Beta 4 is available for the Essential Phone.

That's some incredible timing.

We're not sure if Essential has advance access to the beta builds of Android P or if its team is so quick that it can turn around an OS version in an hour. But whatever the case, if you own an Essential Phone you can try out the latest version of Android P only 60 minutes after Pixel users.

Editor's Pick

If Essential does have advance access to beta builds, one can only assume that every other company that's a part of the beta program also has similar access. That would mean OnePlus, Sony, HMD Global, Oppo, and all the others have all the tools but not the gumption.

One can also assume that if Essential can turn out a beta build of Android this quickly, it's highly likely that it will be able to turn around the stable build of Android P incredibly fast as well. The way things are going, we can only assume that Essential Phone owners will be the first to see Android P after Pixel owners do.
