Red Magic 3 announced: A gaming phone that could be your daily driver

Nubia Red Magic 3 Angled

We have seen a significant increase in the number of gaming smartphones released over the last two years. One of the companies that has been contributing to this trend is Nubia. Today, Nubia is introducing yet another gaming handset, this time with a specialized cooling system and specs that should suffice any Android fan.

Starting with hardware, the Red Magic 3 has a 6.65-inch FHD+ ultra-widescreen display. The screen includes a 90hz refresh rate and support for HDR content. Stereo front-facing speakers provide a cinematic soundscape thanks to DTS:X and other 3D sound technologies.

The Red Magic 3 includes RGB lighting through the back of the phone. Users will be able to customize the look of the panel using built-in lighting effects with support for over 16.8 million colors.

Just like with the Red Magic Mars, this new handset features shoulder triggers. The user can map these touch-sensitive buttons and give the player a competitive edge while gaming on the go.

The Red Magic 3 includes specs on-par with other 2019 flagships. This consists of a Snapdragon 855 CPU, an Adreno 640 GPU, and a 5,000mAh battery that features 30W quick charging that allows for an hour of gaming from just 10 minutes of charging.

The phone comes in three different storage and RAM configurations. Two of the configurations feature 128GB of storage with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, while the third option will include 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM.

One of the latest trends that we have seen especially with gaming phone is "liquid cooling." These passive cooling systems typically contain a heat pipe with a liquid inside that helps keep the CPU cool. The Red Magic 3, on the other hand, features a "state-of-the-art liquid cooling technology with an internal turbo fan."

While we will have to test these claims, Nubia states that the new cooling system increases heat transfer by 500 percent. This change should make for a smoother — and presumably better — gaming experience.

If you are a fan of stock Android, you will be a fan of the Red Magic 3. Nubia chose to leave a stock-like Android 9.0 Pie experience on the handset while only adding minimal changes to the operating system.

The Red Magic 3 includes a switch not found on other phones. When toggled, the phone will launch a gaming dashboard that the company is calling the "Red Magic Game Space 2.0." Users will be able to quickly launch games, control the internal fan's speed, monitor temperatures, and record in-game videos.

The Red Magic 3 runs near-stock Android

Last not certainly not least, the handset will snap photos using its 48MP rear sensor and 16MP selfie camera. We will have to wait until we have the phone in-hand to determine the quality of its photos.

The Red Magic 3 will be released on May 3 in China. The handset will also be available to customers in the U.S., Canada, E.U., and the U.K. in May, but an exact date was not specified. We are also going to have to wait for pricing information.
