Switch to Sprint, and you can get unlimited service for $15 a month

Dallas News

  • If you aren't currently a subscriber, there's a new Sprint $15 per month unlimited plan that's a great deal.
  • To get the deal, you must port your line from another carrier to Sprint. No upgrades and no new lines allowed.
  • The unlimited plan also throttles video playback and has no hotspot features.

The nation's fourth-largest carrier is throwing down a new deal that's hard to pass up if you're a budget-conscious consumer. Starting tomorrow, June 8, if you port your line to Sprint from any other carrier, you can get unlimited talk, text, and data for only $15 per month.

If you like living in a fantasy world where everything is simple, that's all you need to know. If you like to keep your feet more on the ground, then you should keep reading, as there are many caveats to this deal.

First off, we have to emphasize that to get this deal, you must port in your number from another carrier. This won't work for a new line, and it won't work if you're already a Sprint customer.

Second, taxes and fees are not included in the $15 price, so your monthly bill could actually come in closer to $20 per month after all those are thrown in.

Third, this plan is "unlimited," but it's not the same unlimited you'll get from the usual, $60-per-month plan from Sprint. This $15 unlimited plan throttles your video streaming down to 480p, removes any and all hotspot use, and will result in slower speeds during times of network congestion.

Finally, this plan will not be available in stores, but rather only online or over the phone. If you go into a Sprint store tomorrow looking for this deal, you will probably just get some confused looks.

That all being said, 15 bucks a month is 15 bucks a month, which makes this a pretty decent deal for the money. However, Sprint service isn't exactly lauded as the best in the country, so you should check out this coverage map before making any decisions.

Also, with the possibility of a T-Mobile-Sprint merger coming soon, who knows how long this deal will actually apply. If the merger happens, will you be able to carry this deal over to T-Mobile? Hard to say. But take advantage of it while you can!
