The Oppo Reno Ace currently holds the title of fastest charging smartphone, thanks to its 65W charging solution. In fact, the phone's 4,000mAh battery can be fully charged in just 30 minutes.
Now, a Redmi 5G phone with the model number M2001J1E/C has appeared on China's 3C telecommunications website (h/t: Playful Droid), and it might just steal the fastest charging crown from Oppo. According to an image of the listing, seen below, the phone will pack 66W charging speeds.
This is certainly super fast for a smartphone in 2019, but it's a negligible upgrade over the Oppo Reno Ace's 65W charging. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Xiaomi targeted 66W purely so it could say it had the fastest charging phone.
Xiaomi is expected to launch the Redmi K30 series of 5G phones next month, but there's no word if 66W charging will come to these devices. In any event, we're glad to see fast charging make massive improvements in 2019. And it seems like we can expect even faster charging in 2020.
Back in March, Xiaomi revealed that it was testing 100W charging, capable of charging a 4,000mAh battery in just 17 minutes. Oppo stablemate Vivo then announced that it was testing a 120W charging solution, taking a phone with a 4,000mAh battery from zero to 100% in 13 minutes.
