Xiaomi's stunning Mi MIX, which was unfortunately just a little on the large side, has rekindled interest in bezel-less displays, and now MyDrivers has stumbled across a sleek looking Nubia concept for a bezel-less smartphone. Along with this modern trend, the design also takes inspiration from phones of yesteryear, featuring a slider design to extend the compact form factor for calls and selfies.
Much like Xiaomi's phone, and the earlier Sharp Aquos Crystal for that matter, the bezel-less panel allows the display to extend right to the edge of the top and sides of the smartphone to maximise the display area. The concept's additional slide down mechanism used to reveal the front facing camera, flash, and speaker certainly makes the most of the display and addresses the issue of front camera placement that we had with the Mi MIX. It also looks rather cool too. The back of the phone is less exciting, but does show off a selection of customizable cases, including metal, wood and leather options.
Following the unveiling on Xiaomi's Mi Mix concept phone, other smartphone manufacturers, including Meizu and Huawei, have been rumored to be developing their own bezel-less handset. However, again we haven't seen anything more than renders, while specs and any potential release dates remain unknown.
Although these renders look impressive, we should note that we cannot verify the source, and it may just be a fan mock-up. Even if this is a Nubia concept, we can't be sure that such a phone will ever make it to store shelves either, unfortunately. Even so, what do you think about the design?
