Nokia 1 Plus specs and render leak suggest small upgrades for budget device

A leaked render of the Nokia 1 Plus. TigerMobiles

Potential Nokia 1 Plus details have emerged thanks to TigerMobiles. Citing "reliable inside sources," the website has offered some of the handset's rumored specs, and provided a new render (above).

The handset is said to house a 960 x 480-pixel display, quad-core Mediatek MT6739WW chipset, PowerVR GE8100 GPU, and 1GB of RAM. Additionally, TigerMobiles says dual-SIM support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and micro USB connectivity from the Nokia 1 will also appear on the Nokia 1 Plus. It's said to run Android 9.0 Pie — likely based on Android Go.

Editor's Pick

The Nokia 1, which landed in April last year for $85, also housed a gigabyte of RAM, a comparable quad-core chipset, and a similar pixel resolution (480 x 854 pixels). So far, the Nokia 1 Plus wouldn't appear to be a significant upgrade on the Nokia 1 outside of the improved design and OS.

That being said, the Nokia 1 Plus display would have a near 2:1 aspect ratio and be potentially larger and packing a better screen-to-body ratio than the Nokia 1. The Nokia 1 had a 4.5-inch display with ~61.6% screen-to-body ratio and it's one of the areas we'd most like to see improved on the Plus model.

We haven't heard anything about cameras yet, but this was another weaker area of the original device we'd like to see given a boost.

You can read all our thoughts on the original handset in our Nokia 1 review. If the leaks are accurate, we might see its successor next month at the MWC 2019 trade show in Barcelona.
