Technically there's only one in the "Samsung laptops for professionals" category but Samsung currently sells seven Pro models in two sizes: 13.3 inches and 15.6 inches. The smaller 13.3-inch models rely on seventh-generation Intel Core i5-7200U and Core i7-7500U processors along with the company's newer Core i7-8550U chip. The larger 15.6-inch models include the same three processors.
Prices for the 13.3-inch Notebook 9 Pro range from $899 to $1,099. All four have a Full HD touch-capable screen backed by Intel's integrated UHD Graphics 620 GPU. You'll see only 8GB of system memory across the board while Samsung locks storage to 128GB or 256GB on a SATA-based SSD.
Shipping in Titan Silver, these four Samsung notebooks include HDMI output, a 3.5mm audio combo jack, one USB-C port at 5Gbps, two USB-A ports at 5Gbps, and a microSD card slot. Other ingredients include a 720p camera, a pair of 1.5-watt speakers, Wireless AC and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, and a 40WHr or 54WHr battery, depending on the model. The 13.3-inch Notebook 9 Pro weighs 2.91 pounds and measures 0.63-inches thick.
The three 15.6-inch models range between $1,099 and $1,3499. Outside their increased screen size, the big difference with these larger models is the included discrete AMD Radeon 540 graphics chip. Otherwise, they're relatively unchanged from the smaller 13.3-inch configurations save for an increased thickness at 0.67 inches and a heavier weight at 3.8 pounds.
Finally, all Pro models sport a 360-degree hinge enabling Laptop, Tent, Stand, and Tablet modes. They also ship with Samsung's S Pen and a built-in IR camera supporting facial recognition for Windows Hello.

As with the Pro models, Samsung provides two sizes for its Notebook 9: one at 13.3 inches and another at 15.6 inches. All four ship with 8GB of system memory and a 256GB SSD. Their port complement consist of HDMI output, a 3.5mm audio combo jack, one USB-C port at 5Gbps, two USB-A ports at 5Gbps, and a microSD card slot.
Rounding out the 13.3-inch lineup is Wireless AC and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, a pair of 1.5-watt speakers, a 720p webcam, and a fingerprint scanner. Batteries range from 30WHr to 75WHr while customers will see a slight difference in sizes ranging from 0.55 inches to 0.65 inches thick. These four laptops weigh up 2.2 pounds.
Samsung's 15.6-inch models currently rely on two processors: The Core i7-7500U and the Core i7-8550U. For graphics, you'll see units solely using Intel's integrated component while others sport a discrete GeForce MX150 or 940MX graphics chip, depending on the configuration. Given the Core i7-7500U / 940MX combo is rather old, we expect Samsung to liquidate this specific model later this year.
Other ingredients thrown into the 15.6-inch model include 8GB or 16GB of system memory, 256GB of storage on a PCIe-based SSD, a fingerprint scanner, a 720p camera, and a long list of ports consisting of HDMI output, a 3.5mm audio combo jack, a Thunderbolt 3 port, two USB-A ports at 5Gbps, one USB-A port at 480Mbps, and a microSD card slot.

Samsung Notebook 7 Spin
Samsung puts a "spin" on its notebook design using a 360-degree hinge, enabling Laptop, Stand, Tent, and Tablet modes. Overall, there are four set configurations, one of which includes a 13.3-inch screen for $749 while the other three have 15.6-inch screens starting at $799. Yet despite their screen size differences, all four support touch and a Full HD resolution.
For starters, the 13.3-inch model uses an eighth-generation Intel Core i5-8250U processor and integrated graphics. Joining this chip is 8GB of system memory and a 256GB SSD. For ports you'll find HDMI output, a 3.5mm audio combo jack, one USB-C port at 5Gbps, one USB-A port at 5Gbps, and another USB-A port at a slower 480Mbps.
Completing the 13.3-inch package is Wireless AC and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, a backlit keyboard, a fingerprint reader, and a 43WHr battery. It measures 0.73 inches thick, weighs 3.2 pounds, and ships in a Stealth Silver finish.
As for the larger 15.6-inch models, two are based on a seventh-generation Intel Core i7-7500U processor and a discrete GeForce 940MX graphics chip. The third version relies on AMD's Ryzen 5 2500U with integrated Radeon Vega 8 graphics. This latter AMD-based version includes a 480p webcam with a built-in "eyelid" to prevent unwanted spying.

The two Intel-based units rip out a USB-C port for a USB-A port at 480Mbps while tacking on a gigabit Ethernet port and an SD card reader.
The two Intel units measure 0.78 inches, weigh five pounds, and ship in a Platinum Silver finish. The AMD-based model measures 0.74 inches thick, weighs 4.63 pounds, and ships in a Black Garnet finish.
Samsung Notebook Flash
Samsung targets style with the new Notebook Flash. The "flash" aspect stems from its compatibility with Wireless AC Wave 2 promising gigabit wireless speeds. The term also refers to support for Universal Flash Storage technology, enabling up to five times faster data transfers than "traditional" microSD cards.
Overall, the two available Notebook Flash laptops are extremely attractive sporting retro-style keyboards complemented by pseudo-denim work areas. The processor is the only factor separating these two laptops, as the $349 model relies on Intel's Celeron N4000 chip and integrated UHD Graphics 600 component. The $399 model uses the Pentium Silver N5000 processor and its integrated UHD Graphics 605 component.
Intel's two chips power a 13.3-inch Full HD display. Other shared features include 4GB of system memory, 64GB of storage, one HDMI port, a 3.5mm audio combo jack, one USB-C port at 5Gbps, one USB-A port at 5Gbps, one USB-A port at 480Mbps, and a microSD card slot. A dedicated fingerprint reader resides in the keyboard area supporting Windows Hello. Powering all this hardware is a 39WHr battery.
Both Notebook Flash units measure 0.66 inches thin, weigh a mere 3.08 pounds, and ship in a Twill Charcoal finish.
Best Samsung laptops for gaming
Samsung Notebook Odyssey Z
Moving on to the best Samsung laptops for gamers, the company's Odyssey Z costs $1,799. The one available configuration lists a 15.6-inch Full HD screen backed by Intel's eighth-generation Core i7-8750H processor and Nvidia's discrete GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) graphics chip. We presume Samsung will ship an updated model later this year based on Nvidia's new RTX 20 Series graphics.
Samsung's gaming laptop includes 16GB of system memory and a 256GB SSD. For ports, you'll find HDMI output, a 3.5mm audio combo jack, one Type-C port at 5Gbps, two Type-A port at 5Gbps, one Type-A port at 480Mbps, and a gigabit Ethernet port. Other goodies include Wireless AC and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, a 720p webcam, a backlit keyboard, and a 54WHr battery backed by a 180-watt power brick.
The current Odyssey Z model measures 0.70 inches thick and weighs 5.29 pounds.
Samsung Notebook Odyssey
Finally, Samsung serves up four models in its "non-Z" Odyssey gaming notebook family. They feature a 15.6-inch Full HD screen backed by Intel's seventh-generation Core i7-7700HQ processor across all four laptops.
But the similarities mostly stop there. You'll see two models with the discrete GeForce GTX 1050 graphics chip and two with the GTX 1060 (6GB). System memory ranges between 8GB and 16GB while storage consists of two devices on three models: up to a 256GB SSD paired with a 1TB hard drive. The fourth model relies on a single hard drive.
Powered by 43WHr or 66WHr batteries, these laptops include HDMI output, a 3.5mm audio combo jack, an SD card reader, a USB-A port at 5Gbps, and two USB-A ports at 480Mbps. Depending on the model, you'll also see a gigabit Ethernet port for wired networking. All models include Wireless AC and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, a pair of 1.5-watt speakers, and a backlit keyboard with highlighted WASD keys.
Overall, these laptops measure between 0.91 and 1.21 inches and weigh up to 6.04 pounds. Three models ship with a Knight Black finish while the fourth sports a Storm White exterior and the largest SSD of the four.
