Oppo Reno global availability announced in three flavors, including 5G

Oppo Reno pop up sharkfin camera back

Two weeks after its Chinese launch, the Oppo Reno has been officially announced for global markets. Besides the two versions already detailed at the Chinese launch – the regular version and the 10x Zoom version – there's also a third variant, the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom 5G.

The standout feature of the Reno is the 10x periscope zoom, with its characteristic "sharkfin" pop-up camera, but don't expect to see it in future Reno series devices. This is because the Reno series is an evolution of the mid-range R series and the 10x tech will ultimately be absorbed by the premium Find series in Oppo's lineup. So if you're into the feature and don't want to pay Find prices for it, now is the time to buy the Oppo Reno.

Let's talk similarities and differences so you know which version is right for you.

Oppo Reno camera

All three versions of the Oppo Reno camera rely on a 48MP Sony IMX586 1/2-inch sensor and f/1.7 lens as the primary shooter. The two Zoom variants back that up with a 13MP periscope 10x hybrid zoom camera at f/3.0 as well as an 8MP ultra-wide shooter with 120-degree field of view. In terms of layout, the 48MP is up top, the wide-angle is in the middle and the zoom is at the bottom. The regular Oppo Reno camera has the 48MP main sensor paired with a 5MP secondary camera. Another noticeable difference between variants is screen size. The regular Reno has a 6.4-inch OLED panel while the two 10x versions bump that up to a 6.6-inch OLED. Barring the differences in size and pixel density, all other things are equal.

Full HD+ resolution (2,340×1,080)

Notchless "panoramic" screen
93.1 percent screen-to-body ratio
In-display fingerprint scanner

Oppo Reno specs

Beyond the 10x zoom and larger screen, the Oppo Reno specs sheet is also more impressive on the Zoom variants than the regular Reno. It's pretty clear here that the regular Reno is very much an R series device while the 10x Zoom versions are almost Find series products. Here are the differences in specs you can expect between the three versions:

Oppo Reno
10x Zoom/10x Zoom 5G
Snapdragon 710
Snapdragon 855
6/8GB RAM
8GB RAM
128/256GB storage
256GB storage
3,765mAh battery
4,065mAh battery
3.5mm headphone port
No 3.5mm headphone port

All three versions use USB-C and VOOC 3.0 fast charging technology, dual-frequency GPS (L1+L5), NFC and Bluetooth 5. For gamers, there's HyperBoost 2.0 gaming mode, Games Assistant, Game Shock haptics, and three different heat dissipation methods (graphite sheets, copper pipe cooling, and thermal conductive grease paste). All units run ColorOS 6 based on Android 9 Pie. As soon as final global specs sheet is available, we'll add it here.
