Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10e update hub: More May update features

Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus

Update: June 3, 2019 (4:33PM EST): In addition to an improved Night mode for the camera, the May update for Samsung Galaxy S10 phones includes much more than initially known.

SamMobile reported earlier today that the update includes a new "ultra wide SDK" for third-party apps. That means developers can include the option to switch to the ultra-wide camera in their apps. WhatsApp already includes such an option, but it's nice to see it eventually available in many other apps.

Also found in the update is the ability to switch between the regular and ultra-wide camera for panoramas, a fix for a Gear VR connection issue, wide and telephoto options for the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus' live focus mode, and more.

The update is now available as software version XXU1ASE6.

Samsung resumes May update

May 30, 2019: Samsung pushed out new software version XXU1ASE6 to device owners, reported SamMobile.

Coming in at a little under 122MB, the update improves connectivity and stability of Wi-Fi, the stock camera app, and Bluetooth. The update also includes the May 1 security patch level.

Here's hoping that the update also fixes the myriad of issues that Galaxy S10 owners encountered earlier this week. According to device owners, issues included third-party apps freezing from time to time, the power button not locking their devices, and much more.

Update causes major software bugs

May 28, 2019: Samsung pulled software update version ASE5 after Galaxy S10 owners complained of several significant software bugs.

According to affected device owners, issues included third-party apps and the phone freezing from time to time, the phone restarting long after the restart button was pressed, the power button not locking the Galaxy S10, and the fingerprint sensor either not responding or taking a long time to unlock the phone.

Unfortunately, a factory reset or restart didn't eliminate the issues. Temporary workarounds included turning off Wi-Fi and doing a full reset with the power and volume down buttons.
