Report: GSMA will hold meeting to decide fate of MWC 2020

The GSMA is discussing the possibility of cancelling MWC 2020.

Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2020 has seen a slew of withdrawals due to the coronavirus outbreak, and it seems like there's a possibility that the event itself could be cancelled.

According to Spanish daily La Vanguardia, the GSMA (which organizes MWC) will hold a meeting on Friday, February 14 to determine whether MWC 2020 will go ahead.

The news comes after numerous companies pulled out of the show or reduced their presence. Companies that withdrew completely include Amazon, LG, Nvidia, Sony, and Vivo. Meanwhile, the likes of ZTE and TCL confirmed that they wouldn't be holding press conferences, but would still have a presence at the expo.

It also comes after the GSMA announced improved health and safety measures at the event, including banning people traveling from Hubei province (at the center of the outbreak) and increased cleaning and disinfecting of stands.

"We don't comment on internal meetings," a GSMA representative told Android Authority in an emailed response to questions.
