Samsung's Galaxy S20 series is expected to help drive adoption of 5G smartphones, owing to most of these models offering the next-gen connectivity standard.
Some parts of the world won't be getting 5G-enabled Galaxy S20 models though, as SamMobile reports that India's Galaxy S20 line-up is a 4G-only affair. This includes both the Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus, as well as the S20 Ultra, according to Samsung India's pre-order website.
The outlet adds that the Galaxy Z Flip is also available in India as a 4G variant, but the device doesn't actually have a 5G option just yet.
Either way, we're not surprised by the decision to nix 5G in a 4G-only market, and this seems to be the case in other 4G-only nations too. Samsung South Africa's pre-order page, for example, also notes that the Galaxy S20 Ultra is an LTE model and refers to LTE speeds elsewhere.
Nevertheless, we hope Samsung has disabled 5G via software rather than killing support in hardware. This way, when 5G does eventually hit India and other nations, a firmware update could bring the next-gen standard to the devices.
