OnePlus 8 Lite might not be actual name of new mid-range OnePlus phone

A look at the alleged OnePlus 8 Lite.91mobiles/Onleaks

We are hot on the trail of the upcoming OnePlus 8 series. While the past few days have shown us multiple glimpses of the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, we haven't heard much about the rumored OnePlus 8 Lite of late.

According to known tipster Max Weinbach, OnePlus 8 Lite might not be the actual name of the phone after all.

The leakster claims that their source referred to the upcoming budget-minded device as the OnePlus Z. The "hardware" of this so-called OnePlus Z smartphone is also said to match what we saw in leaked renders of the OnePlus 8 Lite.

Weinbach had previously suggested OnePlus is revamping the OnePlus X under a new series. Another popular tipster, Ishan Agarwal, also backed up this information, claiming that the cheaper OnePlus phone will launch later in 2020 and could be a OnePlus Z device.

This is the first time we've heard about the OnePlus Z series. If it's at all based on 2015's OnePlus X, we expect it cut back on several flagship features compared to the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro.

For starters, leaked specs suggest that the phone will come with a MediaTek chipset, possibly the Dimensity 1000 5G SoC. It's also expected to get a 90Hz display instead of the new 120Hz Fluid display that's headed to the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.

Meanwhile, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said that the new devices should launch pretty soon. According to the executive, the launch of the new phones has already been postponed three times, but the company will be going ahead shortly.

We're not sure if OnePlus will launch the 8 Lite alongside the 8 and 8 Pro. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what the company has in store.
