Nokia phone with large battery and low price on the way

  • A new Nokia phone has surfaced in an FCC filing.
  • It appears to be a Nokia 2 sequel with a larger 4,380mAh battery.
  • Don't expect 5G.

The Nokia 2.3 (pictured above) reached our best budget phone list thanks to the big screen and battery you get for the price, and it appears that HMD Global is keen to capitalize on that formula with a new model in the near future.

Android Authority has discovered a previously unseen TA-1270 phone in an FCC filing that bears the hallmarks of a likely Nokia 2 series upgrade. While photos and dimensions aren't available, the model number is consistent with the Nokia 2 series. It also touts a 4,380mAh battery — a logical upgrade over the 4,000mAh pack in the Nokia 2.3, and good news for those who want a budget phone that can last all day.

We wouldn't count on 5G. HMD describes the phone in the filing as supporting LTE at best. That wouldn't be surprising for a device in the Nokia 2 series' price class (it sells for $130 unlocked in the US), but it does suggest that you'll have to wait a while longer before you get very fast data in a device like this.

It's not certain when this Nokia handset will appear. NokiaMob floated an unverified rumor that a Nokia 2.4 would arrive in September alongside updates to multiple other models, but there are no guarantees you'll see the phone then. It should be widely available, at least, as there are hints of model variants (such as TA-1277) in the FCC listing.
