Deal: Get a Pixel 2/2XL at Verizon for $300 off, no trade-in required

Get a Pixel 2 with 64GB of storage for just $350.

Google's Pixel 2 is easily one of the best Android phones of the year, but thanks to devices like the OnePlus 5T and now discounted Essential Phone, justifying the handset's cost of at least $650 isn't all that easy. Thankfully, if you're on Verizon, the carrier's running a new promo that makes the buying Pixel 2 a no-brainer.

Starting Friday, December 1 in-stores and Sunday, December 3 online, any orders of a Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL on a monthly installment plan will be discounted by $300. That $300 credit is spread out over the course of 24 months, but it effectively means you can get Google's latest for as little as $350.

Here's a breakdown of what your final cost will look like with that $300 discount once all is said and done:

  • Pixel 2 w/ 64GB – $350
  • Pixel 2 w/ 128GB – $450
  • Pixel 2 XL w/ 64GB – $550
  • Pixel 2 XL w/ 128GB $650

In addition to this, Verizon is still running another promo that allows you to get 50% off a Google Home with the purchase of either the Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL.

Here's what we're reading, watching, and listening to this week

How we're spending our leisure time.

Everyone has a bit of quiet downtime once in a while. Whether you're sitting quietly at home or trying to relax on a plane or just giving your busy mind and hands a break, it's important to relax.

A good way to do that is to read a book, listen to some music or watch a movie or show. See what's caught our attention for the week of December 1.

Daniel Bader

I've been regularly listening to podcasts for a while now, but the New York Times' The Daily podcast has become part of my morning routine. There's a reason it's garnered so much attention over the past few months: it presents cogent, interesting narratives about the most important news items of that day or week, with first-party sources and the journalists that wrote the stories.

The Daily is fascinating because it takes pains to present both sides of an argument. It tries to capture the human elements of opposing sides, seamlessly weaving in with brilliantly-curated commentary.

It's brilliantly edited and expertly hosted, and because episodes are usually under 20 minutes long, they're easy to consume in one sitting.

This week, I've mostly focused on watching movies and TV shows I copied to my home library long ago rather than try to find anything "new." Among these are The Founder, Get a Job, and Superstore. The Founder is fantastic, Get a Job is a great way to kill two hours, and Superstore is hilarious.

As for music, Google tells me I've been listening to a lot of Amy Winehouse, Radiohead and Macy Gray. Make of that what you will.

Jen Karner

I've been spending a lot more time listening to music, and less time with my nose in a book, or a show on Netflix. While I certain albums have always put me in a particular headspace, I've rarely gotten hung up on a band. Until Delta Rae.

They just released a new EP this year, and while it's only got four songs, they're all amazing. Since I'm listening to new stuff, it also means I've been going back through their discography to belt my favorites out at the top of my lungs. From the creepy Southern Gothic vibes of 'Down by the River' to the powerhouse of 'Chasing Twisters' there is so much to love about Delta Rae.

Marc Lagace

So for the past couple weeks, I've been hearing ads for this new movie Lady Bird in many of my favorite podcasts. And of course, it was getting rave reviews from critics including a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

So I decided to go to see it this week without watching any trailers or actually reading any of those positive reviews and oh boy does this movie ever deliver. If you haven't seen or read too much about this movie that's perfect — go in blind and just let the film hit you. Like don't even watch the trailer above, just take my word for it and go buy your tickets right now. You'll relate to the story if you ever butted heads with your parents as a teenager. It features a great mix of comedy and drama with a cast of characters that are all so endearing in their own ways.

If you're looking for plans this weekend, check out Lady Bird… And then call your mother and thank her for all that she's done for you.

Hayato Huseman

During a road trip earlier this week, my friend Jules put on a podcast from Gimlet Media called Crimetown and even though I'm only two episodes in, I'm really enjoying it so far. It's a documentary-style podcast that explores some incredibly complex organized crime rings in America, with a steady mix of narration and interviews.

As far as music goes, I can't remember the last time I was as excited about a release as when Glassjaw came out of nowhere and announced their first new album in 15 years, which comes out tomorrow. My dudes in Intervals are also dropping a new album on the same day, so it's a great time to be into post-hardcore and instrumental rock.

Amazon's trade-in program will give you a gift card for your old stuff and $50 off a PlayStation 4 Pro

...In with the new.

Taking advantage of Amazon's trade-in program gets the PlayStation 4 Pro back down to the deal price it was going for over Black Friday. All you have to do is trade in one of your old video games, consoles, or accessories. Amazon will give you a trade-in value for it in the form of an Amazon gift card. The value is based on the item itself, its condition, and things like that. Once your trade-in has been shipped and accepted by Amazon, you'll be able to add the PlayStation 4 Pro to your cart and see the $50 taken off automatically.

The $50 bonus promotion expires January 31.

You don't have to trade in something of equivalent value to the $400 console. Any video game, console, or accessory will do. All you have to do is make sure it meets Amazon's criteria and answer a few questions about it.

Amazon has to receive the item before you get a trade-in value, too. So this process might take a bit. But if you can trade-in an old, but perfectly functional, $40 game controller you no longer use for a $50 discount on a brand new console, plus whatever the value you get for the controller, it's definitely worth it.

Check out Amazon's Trade-in terms and conditions, or read the FAQ at the bottom of this page for other questions you might have.

Project Fi support offering owners of defective Nexus 5X phones as little as $53 after it runs out of replacement devices

The Nexus 5X was a fine phone at launch, but it hasn't aged well. It's affected by LG's famous bootloop issue, but Project Fi customers who had Device Protection (formerly Nexus Protect) thought they were safe. Over the last several days, we've gotten multiple tips from readers who have been struggling to get a replacement. Apparently, Google is out of refurb phones, and its proposed remedy is laughable. Customers are being offered as little as $52 in compensation.

Fly the skies with the Spectre Drone for $80!

Drones are hot right now and have been for a few years. There are drone racing competitions, tons of tricks you can do, and tons of footage you can shoot (drones are constantly used TV and film production now). People have been flying model airplanes for decades, but drones up the "coolness" factor and are often considerably less expensive than most flying model planes.

TRNDlabs' Spectre Drone is an awesome mid-range drone that's not necessarily for novices but certainly doesn't require an expert hand to fly. It regularly retails for $149.99, but Android Central Digital Offers has it for $92.99. And right now, when you use code CYBER20, you can take an addition 20% off and get it for $79.99!

The Spectre offers wonderful stability for anyone who isn't a hardened, experience drone pilot. It features fly-assist features, including enhanced auto take-off and landing, and it can even hover so you can get awesome shots from any height you choose. It also has a range of 50 meters, so you can fly it the width of a football field and watch a live field the whole way using the companion app.

If you're looking to get into drone flying or want to buy a gift for someone who does, the TRNDlabs Spectre Drone is an awesome way to get started, since it's not so simple that it gets boring quickly and not so advanced that you need years of practice before take-off. Check it out at Android Central Digital Offers and be sure to use code CYBER20 to get it for $79.99.
