- T-Mobile has rolled out 5G roaming in Alaska.
- It's the first carrier to have 5G in all 50 states.
- The 5G connection comes through a partnership with GCI.
The race for 5G supremacy continues to rage on. While Verizon might have the fastest 5G speeds, T-Mobile can now claim that it is the first carrier to offer 5G coverage in all 50 states.
The company posted on its blog that it has launched a partnership with GCI that lets T-Mobile offer its customers access to 5G while in Anchorage, Alaska, which is that last of the 50 states in which it didn't offer 5G. The move makes T-Mobile the first carrier to have 5G coverage in all 50 states, even if it's just one city in Alaska that has access to the fast connection.
This news comes reasonably quickly after GCI launched the first 5G coverage in Alaska on April 17, 2020. It appears T-Mobile was quick to enter negotiations with the company to get the partnership rolling. Outside of Anchorage, GCI is planning to roll out 5G in Juneau, Fairbanks, and other fiber-served communities.
