Will.i.am's i.am+ company is back with another smartwatch this week, which is now available to pre-order in the UK through network provider Three. Known as the Dial, the standalone smartwatch boasts that it doesn't need to be tethered to a smartphone, and also comes with free music streaming.
The specifications of the watch are fair but not overly impressive. There's a 1.63-inch square 320×320 touch display, a Snapdragon 400 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage on board. The watch also comes with a 2 megapixel front facing camera, a 800mAh battery, and it runs Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
The Dial also boasts some intriguing software features. The watch comes with its own AneedA virtual assistant, which can be used to send texts, play music, call friends, and all the other options that smartwatch users will be familiar with. AneedA also apparently learns from user preferences and adjusts its responses over time. Additionally, Dial owners are granted access to an ad-free music streaming service provided by 7Digital. The service offers some 20 million tracks, which is a little behind the 30+ million on offer from rival music services, but it's still a compelling offer as there are no ads or subscription costs.
The Dial is available from Three UK on a two year contract. At its lowest price, the smartwatch will cost you £24 a month combined with a £49 upfront payment. This contract nets customers 500MB of data each month and 100 minutes of talk time, at a cost of £625 (~$910) over the life of the contract.
