Motorola One, One Power announced: Expect Android One and promise of Pie

A look at the Motorola Moto One series. Motorola

  • The Motorola One series has been announced, offering Android One and dual-camera technology.
  • Motorola says you can expect an update to Android Pie "soon" after launch.

The Motorola One and One Power have finally been announced, coming a few months after we first got wind of the series. And as the name implies, the new phones are part of the Android One program.

The two phones share virtually identical designs, including a wide notch, slight chin, a dual camera setup on the back, and rear fingerprint scanner. But the difference between the phones largely comes down to the specifications.

A look at the Motorola One.

The Motorola One.

Buy the standard Motorola One and you'll be getting a Snapdragon 625 chipset and 5.99-inch HD+ display (19:9). Opt for the Motorola One Power and you'll get a more capable Snapdragon 636 processor and a slightly larger, 6.2-inch full HD+ display (19:9).

Unfortunately, the announcement post doesn't delve into more details. But it notes that the Motorola One gets 4GB of RAM and a 13MP dual-camera setup, while the Power model has 64GB of expandable storage. We've contacted the company to get a more comprehensive list of specifications and will update the article accordingly.

What else should you know?

A look at the Moto One Power from a couple of angles.

The Motorola One Power.

China's TENAA regulatory commission has previously listed what could be the Motorola One Power. The filing revealed a 4,850mAh battery, a 16MP+5MP dual-camera pairing, and an 8MP selfie camera. Hopefully this is indeed the Motorola One Power, because a 4,850mAh battery is pretty massive.

Motorola has also revealed that the two phones will receive two Android updates, adding that Android Pie will be available "soon" after launch. Of course, "soon" is relative, but hopefully we're talking about weeks rather than months.

The standard Motorola One has a 299 euro recommended price tag and will be available in Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific in the "coming months." The phone will also be available in the U.K. for 269 pounds from John Lewis, Amazon, and Argos. The Motorola One Power is set to launch in India from October, but pricing and additional markets haven't been revealed by Motorola just yet.
