Report: Samsung Galaxy Watch successor might come with 5G

The Samsung Galaxy Watch.

According to a leak from SamMobile released today, Samsung is working on a follow-up to 2018's Galaxy Watch.

Similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch sequel reportedly comes in at least two flavors: one with Wi-Fi and another with Wi-Fi and LTE. The Wi-Fi variant reportedly has model numbers SM-R820 and SM-R830, while the LTE variant has SM-R825 and SM-R835. Both variants reportedly feature Bluetooth for connectivity with your smartphone.

Interestingly, SamMobile also mentioned there might be a 5G variant for the U.S. with model numbers SM-R827 and SM-R837. The Galaxy Watch sequel could be the first smartwatch with 5G, though its usefulness might be dubious. After all, it'll take years until 5G becomes as prevalent in the U.S. as 4G LTE currently is.

Elsewhere, the Galaxy Watch sequel reportedly comes with 4GB of storage and in at least three colors: black, silver, and gold. It's unknown whether the smartwatch comes in two sizes or whether it features a rotating bezel. The Galaxy Watch Active ditched the rotating bezel, which forced users to solely use the display for navigation.

There's also no information on pricing or availability. For reference, the current Galaxy Watch is available for $329.99 for the 42mm variant and $349.99 for the 46mm variant. Also, Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch alongside the Galaxy Note 9 in August 2018. Perhaps we could see the Galaxy Watch sequel announced alongside the Galaxy Note 10.
