Samsung is making a habit of issuing the Android security updates to its Galaxy handsets early. This time, the Galaxy S7 Edge is already receiving the security update for June.
The company jumped the gun on the April update for the Galaxy S7 Edge in Korea, which arrived in March, pushing the update before the month was over. It seems this wasn't a one-off, as the S7 Edge in Spain on the Orange network has received the security vulnerabilities for May a few days before the month is up.
Monthly security updates began as part of the fallout from the Stagefright vulnerability with the aim of patching vulnerabilities quickly to keep Android as secure as possible without having to wait for point releases. Not to mention the inherent delay while the update to Android filtered through the manufactures and carriers, leaving the end-user vulnerable for months or even years. Google now releases monthly security patches in an attempt to resolve this, and Samsung seem on point with its distribution.
To get the update for the Galaxy S7 Edge just head into the Settings and select About Device and hit the Download updates manually button to see if the security patch is ready for your device.
