The best Metro by T-Mobile deals (August 2019)

metro by t mobile logo

Metro by T-Mobile is the no-contract subsidiary of T-Mobile that was previously known as MetroPCS. Whatever name it uses, it has some excellent deals on both plans and phones if you want to same some money, and we have the best current deals you can get from the carrier.

Metro by T-Mobile deals – Two unlimited lines for $80 a month

metro by t mobile unlimited deal

The first Metro by T-Mobile deal will let you get two lines, all with unlimited high-speed data, for just $80 a month. That's with taxes and fees included.

The plan also lets users access up to 15GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data, plus 100GB of cloud storage via Google One. Finally, it throws in a free subscription to Amazon Prime, which on its own normally costs $12.99 a month. Unfortunately, the Amazon Prime offer is for new customers, not current users. This plan also requires signing up for at least one new line of service.

This is easily one of the best Metro deals, but there are some strings.  Users may experience slower speeds in congested locations if they use more than 35GB of data before their billing period ends. Also, video streaming is limited to 480p resolution with this plan.

Metro by T-Mobile Deals – Get two Samsung Galaxy A20 phones for "free"

Samsung Galaxy A20

Another Metro deal lets you get the two Samsung Galaxy A20 smartphones, which are normally priced at $239.99 each, for free. Here's how this deal works:

  1. First, purchase one Samsung Galaxy A20 phone from Metro by T-Mobile, and connect that phone to an already existing wireless phone number, and you will get an instant $239.99 rebate. This deal does not work with current T-Mobile numbers or ones that have been active on Metro by T-Mobile in the past 90 days.
  2. Then, buy a second Samsung Galaxy S20 phone and sign up for a new line of service, and Metro by T-Mobile will give you another instant $239.99 rebate. You will still have to pay sales taxes and an activation fee.

The Samsung Galaxy A20 has a 6.4-inch display, an Exynos 7884 processor running at 1.8Ghz, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of onboard storage, with a microSD card for adding additional storage. It also has 13MP and 5MP rear cameras, an 8MP front-facing camera and a 4,000mAh battery.

Metro by T-Mobile deal – get even more phones for "free"

Motorola Moto E6 hands on screen size

Metro by T-Mobile is also offering a way to get other phones for free including the Motorola Moto E6, the Moto G7 Play, the Moto G7 Power, the LG Stylo 5, and the Samsung Galaxy J7 Star. Just port an already existing wireless phone number to the "free" phone of your choice and you will get an instant rebate for the cost of that phone. This deal does not work with current T-Mobile numbers or ones that have been active on Metro by T-Mobile in the past 90 days. You will still need to pay an activation fee and sales taxes for these "free" phones.

You will need to switch an already existing number over to Metro by T-Mobile to get this deal. It's also only available at Metro by T-Mobile stores. The iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch display, along with a 12MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera.

Metro by T-Mobile deal – get a MetroSMART Ride or MetroSMART Hotspot for free

metro by t mobile smartcar

Our final deal offers customers a way to get a MetroSMART Ride online car add-on for free or a MetroSMART stand-alone mobile hot spot for free. You will need to activate a new line of service for each of these devices to get the instant rebate ($109.99 for the MetroSMART Ride device and $79.99 for the MetroSMART hotspot). 10 best Pokémon games for Android!

best Pokemon games on android featured image
There is actually a collection of Pokemon games on mobile now. It was a long time coming because Pokemon is one of the most popular gaming franchises out there. Each game plays a little differently. That means no two games offer the same experience. There aren't many yet, but here are the best Pokémon games for Android!

Read Next: Pokémon Quest tips and tricks: From beginner to master in only couple of hours

Magikarp Jump

Price: Free with in-app purchases

Magikarp Jump is one of the newest Pokémon games on the list. It's a simple little casual game. Your job is to train Magikarp. The goal is to make him flop higher than your opponent's Magikarp. It may seem a little silly because it definitely is. You'll have to feed it, train it, and put it through competitions to make it stronger. It features cameos from other Pokémon along with some customizations. Like Camp Pokémon, it's definitely made for casual gamers.

Magikarp Jump is one of the best pokemon games for android

Pokemon Duel

Price: Free to play

Pokémon Duel is one of the newer Pokémon games on Android. It plays a little bit like a board game mixed with the traditional card game. You create a lineup of Pokémon and battle another player or AI opponent. You move your pieces across the board strategically and take out the opposing Pokémon. The extra strategy elements make the game a little different from other Pokémon games. However, you still get classic mechanics like elemental weaknesses and special moves for specific Pokémon. It's a freemium game so do beware of that. Otherwise, it's a decent little time killer for Pokémon fans.

Pokemon Go

Price: Free

Pokémon Go hit the world like a ton of bricks. It is without a doubt the most popular Pokémon game on mobile. There aren't a lot of people who don't know how this game works. You walk around in the real world, catch Pokémon, level them up, and then use them to battle gyms. The real world element also motivates you to leave the couch and go meet new people. There are various things to make the game more engage like in-game events. The fad has died down a lot. However, that just made more room for the real Pokémon Go fans. Updates continue to add new content, new game modes, new Pokemon, and new activities for trainers.

Pokemon Masters

Price: Free to play

Pokemon Masters is one of the newest Pokemon games for mobile. You team up with other trainers for three vs three battles with all of your Pokemon at once. It's by DeNA, the developers of Final Fantasy Record Keeper so the developers have some knowledge about doing free to play games from large franchises. The game features trainers from most of the Pokemon games as well as a PvP and co-op multiplayer mode. It's brand new so there are still some growing pains, but it should be fairly popular. We also have a bunch of tutorials linked up at the end of the article if you want more info.

Pokemon Playhouse

Price: Free

Pokémon Playhouse is a kids game for Pokemon fans. The game includes a large playhouse with tons and tons of Pokémon. Children interact with the house, the Pokémon, and other in-game elements. The game has super simple controls, lots of colors and noise, and other elements that kids might like. It's intended for younger kids from ages three to five. Thus, don't expect anything complicated out of this Pokémon game. Camp Pokémon is another excellent Pokemon title for slightly older kids. Pokémon Playhouse is also free with no in-app purchases or advertisements.

Pokemon Playhouse - best pokemon games

Pokemon Quest

Price: Free to play

Pokémon Quest is another newer Pokémon game from 2018. It's also one of the few cross-platform Pokémon games. You can play on mobile or on Nintendo Switch. The Pokémon world is in cubes, but your goal remains mostly the same. You catch Pokémon, train them, and battle them. There is also a campground where players customize the space and make it their own. This is a full game unlike something such as Camp Pokémon or Pokémon Playhouse. Thus, we only recommend it for older kids and adults. There are a few bugs in the game play, but nothing overly serious. Admittedly, it's not quite as fun as a main series Pokémon game.

Pokemon Shuffle Mobile

Price: Free to play

Pokémon Shuffle Mobile was one of the first Pokémon games on mobile. It is essentially a classic match-three style game with some added combat mechanics. You have to match up a bunch of shapes in order to attack your foe. You get larger attacks if you match more than three shapes at once. It otherwise acts like any other Pokémon game. It's a casual game. Thus, it's not difficult to play and you'll be grinding for new stuff often (or paying for it). That doesn't make it bad or anything, just more friendly to a casual audience. It is not as deep as some other Pokémon games on this list.

Pokemon TCG Online

Price: Free to play

Pokémon TCG Online is a mobile, freemium version of the popular trading card game. Players collect various Pokémon cards, build decks, and challenge other players. It works a lot like games such as Hearthstone or Clash Royale, but with Pokémon mechanics. It has online PvP, AI opponents for non-PvP play, various customization elements, and a lot more. It's a freemium game like we said earlier. That means there is a pay-to-win element with this one. Otherwise, it's quite a bit of fun. It competes favorably with Pokémon Duel as a slightly more serious, but still very casual Pokémon game.

Nintendo DS Pokemon games

Price: Free / Varies

There were a few Pokémon games on the Nintendo DS. They include Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Black and White, and Black 2 and White 2. Many of those games are older, but still very fun and very traditional titles. We don't recommend piracy, so please try to buy these games before attempting to emulate them on your Android devices. That said, DraStic is likely your best option for a functional Nintendo DS emulator. You can check out our full list of Nintendo DS emulators by clicking the button above. This is an excellent way to get some classic Pokémon games on your phone or tablet.

Even older Pokemon Games

Price: Free / Varies

There are a bunch of Pokémon games for older game systems as well. Game Boy and Game Boy color saw the classic Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow along with Gold, Silver, and Crystal (Game Boy Color only). Game Boy Advance had Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald. Again, we do not condone piracy so do try to buy these games before emulating them on your phone or tablet. That said, we have a list of the best Game Boy emulators (including Color and Advance) at the button above. Check those out and find the one that works best for you. Between these, the DS ones, and the mobile games, you're actually only missing a handful of Pokémon games on Switch and Nintendo 3DS. You otherwise have access to all of them.

How to use the Windows 10 start menu with some fun tricks

Windows 10 Start Menu screenshot
The Windows 10 start menu is a mixture of old and new. After many users expressed hatred toward the Metro UI start menu on Windows 8, Microsoft decided to do something about it with Windows 10. Microsoft took some Windows 7 elements and blended them with Windows 8 elements to make the Windows 10 start menu.

It's surprisingly easy to navigate and customize, so a lot of info here won't be brand new. However, we're hoping to add in some tips and tricks to give you even more customization options. Here's how to use the Windows 10 start menu.

More posts about Windows 10 tutorials!

The basics

There are a bunch of little things you can do to the Windows 10 start menu. We'll briefly list off some of the easier customization options below and we'll go into the more powerful stuff further down the article:

Change the start menu size – This is easy enough. Move your mouse to the top edge of the start menu. Click and drag it up to make it taller or down to make it shorter. The width is determined by how many columns you have.

Enable full screen mode – Open the Windows 10 Settings and select the Personalization section. Click the Start option in the left margin. From there, there are a variety of minor customization options. Full screen mode is one of those options. Simply enable it in this menu.

Most used apps, suggested apps, and recently added apps – These are all toggles to add or subtract more elements of the Windows 10 start menu. They are all located in the same Personalization section as the full screen mode above. Simply flip the toggles on or off depending on how clean or cluttered you like your start menu.

Pin apps to the start menu – There are two methods to pin apps to the start menu. The first is to find the app in the All Apps List menu, right-click the app, and click the "Pin to start" option. You can also drag and drop apps from the All Apps List straight to the start menu to create a new tile on the start menu. To reverse this process, right-click any tile and select the "Unpin from start" option.

Enable and disable live tiles – Simply right-click any tile on the start menu, select the "More" option, and select either "Turn Live Tile on" or "Turn Live Tile off". Please note, apps that don't have live tiles do not have this option.

Move and resize tiles – This is another easy function. You can simply drag and drop tiles wherever you want them. To resize, right-click the tile, select "Resize" and then select the size you want. Not all apps have access to all available tile sizes.

Change accent color – Your accent color determines the color of the tiles. You can customize this by opening Windows 10 Settings, navigating to Personalization, then clicking the "Color" option in the left margin. Scroll down and select your favorite color. You can also set it to automatically change the color based on your wallpaper colors.

Windows 10 Start Menu 2

Customize the left margin icons with folders

The left margin of the Windows 10 start menu has a few icons that do various things. This is the fastest way to get to things like the Settings, your account page, the power menu, and other things. It is entirely customizable as well.

  1. Open the start menu.
  2. Right-click on any icon.
  3. Select the "Personalize this list" option.
  4. You can also get to this menu by opening the Settings, navigating to Personalization, clicking the "Start" option in the left margin, and then clicking the "Choose which files appear on Start" option.

From there, select the icons you want along the left side. You can include various folders, the file browser, the Settings menu icon, your network settings, and other personal folders. Close out of the window once you've selected everything you want to select.

Windows 10 Start Menu shortcuts

Customize the All Apps List

The All Apps List is a static list of all of your apps in alphabetical order. There isn't a lot of customization for this part of the Windows 10 start menu because it's supposed to act as a sort of static list for easy reference. However, that doesn't mean there's no way to customize it.

The only way to remove Universal Apps, or apps installed from the Microsoft Store, is to uninstall them. The method below only works with desktop apps you install from outside the Microsoft Store. You can right-click any Universal App and click the uninstall button option to remove it.

Here is the best way to customize the All Apps List:

  1. Right-click any app in the All Apps List. Select "More" and then "Open file location".
  2. A screen similar to the screenshot above will appear. These are all the shortcuts for your All Apps List and you can do whatever you want here.

Change app and folder names – You can right click on anything in this window and click the "Rename" option to change the name. Any changes reflect in the All Apps List. For instance, you can rename Firefox to FF Browser and it'll show up as FF Browser in your All Apps List.

Add/remove apps from folders – Improve your organization by adding apps and games to various folders. Simply right click the empty white space in the folder and click the "Add new folder" option to create folders. Alternatively, you can remove apps from folders as well.

Remove and hide apps – You can delete icons at will. This removes them from the All Apps List view, but leaves them installed on your computer. You can use this to hide apps from your kids, for instance, so they don't get into the wrong stuff.

Please note, a lot of the stuff in here requires administrative privileges. Additionally, Universal Apps like Calendar or Outlook won't appear here and you can't customize them.

Windows 10 start menu Add Tile to Group

How to create and customize tile groups

The Windows 10 start menu lets you organize your tiles into specific groups. You can group them whichever way you want, name the groups, and add and subtract tiles from the group.

Create a new group – Click and drag a tile to the section of the start menu where you want your group. You should see a translucent bar show up like the screenshot above. Drop the app near that bar to create a new group. The bar will be the same color as your accent color.

Add tiles to any tile group – Click and drag other tiles into the group by placing it near the other apps in the group.

Rename tile groups – Tile groups have a pronounced space between one another vertically. Click in that space to create a name for that group.

Move entire tile groups – Finally, you can move entire tile groups if you need to. Simply move your mouse cursor over top of the group name. You should see a two-line icon appear to the right of the group name. Click and drag that two-line icon to move the entire group along with every tile in that group.

Tile groups are useful for a lot of things. You can organize similar apps together for easy access. Plus, you can set up groups how you want so yours will differ from everybody else's. Use the tips above to make it yours!

Windows 10 Start Your Phone App

Other tips and tricks

The Windows 10 start menu is the most powerful start menu of any Windows version so far. There are a bunch of little tips, tricks, and secret functions available. We have as many as we could find just below. We also recommend using the right-click often in the start menu because different tiles, apps, and settings bring up different menus with different functions.

Magnify the start menu – If the start menu is a bit hard to read for whatever reason, you can magnify the start menu along with every other part of the OS. Simply open Settings, navigate to System, and tap the "Display" option in the left margin of the System settings. There is an option there to change magnification from 100% to 125%, 150%, or 200%. This enlarges everything, including the start menu.

Expand the left margin icons – The top left corner of the Windows 10 start menu has a three-line button. Click it to expand the left margin outward, making it easy to read the options there.

Uninstall apps quickly – You can right-click any app, desktop or Universal, and hit the uninstall button. If it's a Microsoft Store app, the app will simply uninstall right then and there. Uninstalling a desktop app will immediately take you to the Control Panel to uninstall it there.

Recreate the classic start menu – This isn't so much a trick as it is an observation. You can make the Windows 10 start menu look like Windows 7 by simply unpinning every tile. All that's left after that is the All Apps List.

Add tiles to folders – Much like Android and iOS, you can move tiles on top of one another to place them into a folder. You can move this folder around like its own tile and access the apps inside by clicking on it. It's an excellent way to clean up a messy Windows 10 start menu. You can name folders by opening them up, clicking where it prompts you to name the folder, and then type in the name. You can remove tiles from folders by clicking and dragging them anywhere outside of the folder.

Extra contextual menu – You can right-click the Windows 10 start menu button to see a massive contextual menu with some basic power user functions like running the command prompt, Powershell, network connections, Apps & Features, and other settings.

Change the background color – This is a bit of a niche setting and it looks pretty bad with most colors. Still, you can do it. Go into Settings, then Personalization, and click the "Colors" option in the left margin. Scroll down to where it says "Show accent color on the following surfaces" and tick the box with the start menu option. You can also enable transparency effects in this menu and it affects the start menu a little bit as well.

We asked, you told us: Most people use Google Assistant for a variety of things

Google Assistant prompt on the Google Pixel 3 XL

I consider myself a pretty boring Google Assistant user. I use it quite frequently on my phones and Google Home speakers, but really only to ask it general questions and to tell me the weather.

That's why we asked you last week to tell us what you use Google Assistant for. Are you a boring user like me, or do you command your smart home with the voice assistant? Out of over 1,400 total votes, the results were actually pretty even.

Which video chat apps do you use?

Results

18% of voters said they use Google Assistant for controlling their smart home products, 16.6% use it to ask general questions, and 16.5% use it to play music around their house. 15.1% use it to set reminders, and 14.6% use Assistant to ask about the weather.

More posts about Google Assistant

Noteworthy comments

Here are some of the best comments from last week's poll explaining why they voted the way that they did:

  • I don't. Because, even though I live in town – and have 5 bars on my 4-month old G8 – when, while driving down the road I say, "OK Google, call (my brother) 70% of the time I get:" I'm sorry, I can't reach the internet right now. So I use Cortana instead. Just makes me appreciate how well the voice assistant in Windows Phone worked 5 years ago and what a useless disaster Android is in this area.
  • I use assistant for everything
  • Mainly Google broadcast to call everyone to meals and in this heat using smart plugs to turn fans on and off.
  • I use it quite a bit while driving to send text messages.
  • Smart home control, broadcasts around the house, and definitely routines for me. And alarms, timers, shopping list, music… Okay. We use ours a lot.
  • I use it ONLY to set my alarms for work or any special occasion

That's it for this week, everyone. As always, thanks for voting, thanks for the comments, and don't forget to let us know what you thought of the results below!
