Samsung previously said its long-delayed Galaxy Fold device is launching in September, and we might just have a firm release date after all.
According to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency (h/t: Android Central), Samsung and three mobile operators are discussing a September 6 launch date in the country. This date also coincides with the opening day of the IFA trade show in Berlin, and the outlet says Samsung will likely use the event to show off the revised model.
It's believed that the phone was originally set to launch late in September, but it seems like Samsung is confident enough that it has brought the release window forward.
Yonhap reports that the initial shipment for South Korea numbers between 20,000 and 30,000 units, and that it will be available for 2.3 million won (~$1902). The foldable phone is then expected to launch in the U.S. and China later in September.
News of a potential launch comes just over a month after Samsung confirmed a September launch window. The company also detailed a few fixes it made to the Galaxy Fold, such as tucking in the protective screen layer, adding more metal layers beneath the screen to reinforce it, and reducing the space between the hinge and body.
The fixes were made after several reviewers reported major issues with review units, such as broken screens. Some reviewers also mistakenly peeled off the protective screen layer, assuming it was a screen protector rather than an integral part of the display.
