We've seen a variety of Nokia smartphones since HMD Global started producing them back in 2017. But the Android Go-powered devices are among the cheapest ones, giving you plenty of features for $150 or less.
Fortunately, the Nokia Android Go phones haven't been forgotten when it comes to updates. HMD chief product officer Juho Sarvikas confirmed on Twitter that the Nokia 2.1, Nokia 1 Plus, and Nokia 1 would all be getting the Android 10 (Go Edition) update.
Entry level smartphone experience should not be a compromise. #Google proves it with new #Android 10 Go edition offering rich experiences with even better memory mgmt, performance & security. We are working to bring them first on #Nokia smartphones https://t.co/6K9QaYCY2p pic.twitter.com/5jWHrJPV4q

Sarvikas revealed that the Nokia 1 Plus would be first Nokia Android Go phone to receive the update in Q1 2020, followed by the Nokia 1 and Nokia 2.1 in Q2 2020. That's a fair amount of time to wait for the updates, but we're glad to see the ~$80 Nokia 1 being updated over a year after its launch.
It also serves as more proof of HMD's commitment to Android updates, having been crowned number one in this regard by tracking firm Counterpoint Research.
As for Android 10 (Go Edition), Google says the update launches apps 10% faster than the previous version based on Android Pie, adding that it's the leanest version of the platform yet. The search company has also implemented the Adiantum protocol in this release, enabling encryption on phones with modest hardware.
