Samsung Galaxy A70s hits India: The battle of 64MP phones begins

The Samsung Galaxy A70s.Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy A70s has been coming for a long time now, with rumors that it would be one of the first phones with a 64MP camera. Fortunately, we don't have to wait any longer, because the phone has just launched in India.

Samsung's phone isn't the first 64MP phone to be announced though, as the Realme XT and Redmi Note 8 Pro have both been announced in recent weeks. But you're still getting a pretty capable handset from the looks of things.

The main selling point is that 64MP f/1.8 camera of course, allowing users to take full-resolution shots or 16MP pixel-binned snaps. Samsung says the device also packs a Night mode, Scene Optimizer, and Super Steady Video mode. Otherwise, this camera is joined by an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 5MP depth sensor.

The high-resolution antics don't stop at the back though, as you've got a 32MP f/2.0 selfie camera in a waterdrop notch. This camera will presumably make use of pixel-binning as well to get 8MP snaps in low-light conditions.

What else does it have?

The Samsung Galaxy A70s also possesses a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED screen (with in-display fingerprint sensor), a large, 4,500mAh battery with 25W wired charging, and Samsung Pay support.

Samsung's device isn't a slouch when it comes to power either, packing a mid-range Snapdragon 675 processor, 6GB to 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of expandable storage.

Editor's Pick

The Samsung Galaxy A70s starts at Rs. 28,999 (~$411) for the 6GB/128GB variant, and Rs. 30,999 (~$439) for the 8GB/128GB option. The devices are now available from Samsung Opera House, Samsung's online store, leading online retailers, and offline stores. You can find the phone in Prism Crush Red, Prism Crush Black, and Prism Crush White.

Samsung's phone comes in at a more expensive price than the Realme XT, with the 8GB/128GB version retailing for Rs. 18,999 (~$269). You're getting roughly equal power but a bigger battery and higher resolution selfie camera in the Samsung device. Xiaomi's Redmi Note 8 Pro is also set to launch in India in the coming weeks, and it'll likely have a similar price as the Realme XT.
