It was only three years ago that SanDisk unveiled its record-breaking 128 GB microSD card. That record was subsequently broken by none other than SanDisk the following year with its 200 GB microSD card. During the past few years, we've seen growing competition from companies like Samsung and its UFS memory cards, but today, SanDisk sets yet another world record: at 400 GB, the new Ultra-series microSD card is officially the world's highest capacity microSD card for use in mobile devices.

As Sven Rathjen, vice president of product marketing at Western Digital – the parent company of SanDisk – explains, "We continue to push technology boundaries and transform the way consumers use their mobile devices. By focusing on achieving new technology milestones, we enable consumers to keep up with their mobile-centric lifestyles with storage solutions they trust." And indeed, the all new SanDisk Ultra is a true beast when it comes to storage.

Theoretically speaking, this would allow you to move up to 1,200 photos per minute.

Not only can you save up to 40 hours of Full HD resolution videos, but those files can be transferred onto the card at maximum speed of 100 MB/s. While this is read speed we're talking about, theoretically speaking, this would allow you to move up to 1,200 photos per minute. With native support for Adoptable Storage enabled inside Android OS, SanDisk's new 400 GB microSD card could be the perfect solution for heavy multimedia consumers (granted that they have an Android device with a microSD slot, of course).

The asking price for this tiny beast? $249.99 in the US. Given that SanDisk's 256 GB microSD card retails for $199.99 (though usually priced lower), an extra $50 isn't too bad for almost double the storage. That said, however, it's likely that the retail price of the 400 GB microSD card will drop in the coming months on online sites such as Amazon.

Will you be buying SanDisk's 400 GB microSD card? How much storage do you need/use on your mobile device usually? Let us know by leaving a comment below!
