Best phones with 8GB of RAM: What are your options? (September 2019)

It wasn't long ago that 8GB of RAM was considered a pretty sizeable capacity, even for a computer. Now phones with 8GB RAM are a thing. In fact, phones are even starting to offer 10GB, or as much as 12GB of RAM. While that's arguably an overkill, more RAM is never a bad thing, especially if you plan to keep your handset for several years. More RAM doesn't necessarily mean your phone is totally future proof, but it certainly helps.

If you're in the market for a phone with 8GB RAM, you'll be happy to hear there are quite a few of them to choose from — check out the best ones below.

Phones with 8GB of RAM:

Editor's note: We will be updating this list of the best phones with 8GB of RAM regularly as new devices launch.

1. Samsung Galaxy S10 series

phones with 8GB of RAM - Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus

The Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10e have a number of things in common. They all have a headphone jack, are powered by the Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9820 chipset, and feature an IP68 rating. They all also have 8GB of RAM, although you can choose from other memory configurations as well.

The Galaxy S10 Plus is the best of the three phones, although it doesn't offer a lot more than the regular Galaxy S10. It has a larger display, a bigger battery, and two front-facing cameras instead of one, among other things. Both phones have an in-display fingerprint scanner and are equipped with a triple-camera setup at the back.

If you want to save some money, the Galaxy S10e is the one to go with. It offers the smallest display, only has two cameras at the back, and sports a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. You can check out exactly how the three phones compare in the specs table below.

  • Display: 5.8-inch, Full HD+

2. Samsung Galaxy Note 10

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus Screen upright on table 1

The Galaxy Note 10 packs the Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9825 chipset under the hood along with 8GB of RAM. It offers less than the Note 10 Plus — which has 12GB of RAM — but is still a great option for demanding users.

The phone sports a triple-camera setup at the back, giving you plenty of versatility when taking pictures. It has a gorgeous design with a large punch-hole display featuring curved edges. You also get an in-display fingerprint scanner, wireless charging, and an IP rating for protection against water and dust, among other things.

Being a Note, the phone comes with the S Pen, which has a few new tricks up its sleeve this year. These include Air Actions, which let you control certain features of the device by swiping the S Pen through the air like a magic wand. As every phone, the Note 10 has a few drawbacks, with one of them being the lack of a headphone jack.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 specs:

  • Display: 6.3-inch, FHD+
  • SoC: SD 855 or Exynos 9825
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 256GB
  • Cameras: 12, 12, and 16MP
  • Front camera: 10MP
  • Battery: 3,500mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

3. Huawei P30 Pro

Huawei P30 Pro with 8GB of RAM

The Huawei P30 Pro comes with 8GB of RAM under the hood, although a 6GB variant is also available. You can get the phone with as much as 512GB of storage, which can be expanded via Huawei's proprietary Nano Memory card.

Huawei's flagship impresses in the photography department — its four rear cameras take fantastic shots, even in super low-light conditions thanks to the company's Night Mode. It also comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner, has a gorgeous design, and supports wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging.

The battery is worth a mention as well, coming in at a massive 4,200mAh. Our very own David Imel got between nine and 10 hours of screen-on time during his testing, which is well above average. All these things combined make the P30 Pro one of the best phones with 8GB of RAM you can get. And since it was released before the Huawei ban debacle, future software updates are expected to be unaffected.

Huawei P30 Pro specs:

  • Display: 6.47-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Kirin 980
  • RAM: 6/8GB
  • Storage: 128/256/512GB
  • Cameras: 40, 20, 8MP + ToF
  • Front camera: 32MP
  • Battery: 4,200mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

4. OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, and 7T

OnePlus 7 Pro alone on table screen

The OnePlus 7 Pro comes in configurations that include 6, 8, or 12GB of RAM. The latter two are only available with the variant containing 256GB of storage. The rest of the phone is quite stunning. It comes with high-end internals, a fantastic 90Hz OLED display, and even a pop-up selfie camera in place of a display notch.

It is the most expensive OnePlus device to date, starting at $669, but that is still a good deal considering it competes with $1,000 phones in multiple areas. But if you want to save some money, the OnePlus 7 is a better option. It comes with 8GB of RAM under the hood, although a 6GB variant is also available. You're getting the same chipset as with the Pro model, which means the phone is suitable for demanding users.

However, the OnePlus 7 has a smaller display with a lower resolution and a notch, comes with two rear cameras instead of three, and packs a smaller battery. You can check out the other differences between the two devices in our dedicated post at the link.

Or, you could opt for the brand new OnePlus 7T, which also has 8GB of RAM and a newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC.

OnePlus 7 Pro specs:

  • Display: 6.67-inch, QHD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 855
  • RAM: 6/8/12GB
  • Storage: 128/256GB
  • Cameras: 48, 16, and 8MP

  • Software: Android 10

5. ZTE Axon 10 Pro

ZTE Axon 10 Pro design

The base version of the ZTE Axon 10 Pro comes with 128GB of storage, but a 256GB model is also available, and that one can be had with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The microSD card slot allows you to expand the storage for an additional 1TB, which is more than enough for the vast majority of users.

ZTE might not be a big name in Western markets, but that doesn't mean it makes bad phones. The Axon 10 Pro has plenty to offer, including an eye-catching design and high-end specs. You also get the Snapdragon 855 chipset, three rear cameras, and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The phone has a large 6.47-inch display with curved edges and offers a near-stock Android experience. The battery life is great thanks to its 4,000mAh cell, which also supports wireless charging. All these things combined make the Axon 10 Pro one of the best phones with 8GB of RAM on the market.

ZTE Axon 10 Pro specs:

  • Display: 6.47-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 855
  • RAM: 6/8/12GB
  • Storage: 128/256GB
  • Cameras: 48, 20, and 8MP
  • Front camera: 20MP
  • Battery: 4,000mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

6. Asus Zenfone 6

Asus Zenfone 6 featuring 8GB of RAM

There are a couple of reasons that make the Asus Zenfone 6 a great device. The handset offers flagship specs at a mid-range price tag. It also packs a large 5,000mAh battery and runs a near-stock version of Android. But what makes it truly stand out is the 8GB of RAM you can find on the version with 256GB of internal storage.

Another interesting feature is its flip-up camera. This design approach allowed Asus to create a phone without a notch or a punch-hole for the camera, giving the Zenfone 6 a high screen-to-body ratio.

Of course, the low price tag means Asus had to cut a few corners. The phone doesn't support wireless charging, has an LCD screen instead of an OLED one found on most high-end phones, and isn't resistant to water.

Asus Zenfone 6 specs:

  • Display: 6.4-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 855
  • RAM: 6/8GB
  • Storage: 64/128/256GB
  • Cameras: 48 and 13MP
  • Front cameras: 48 and 13MP
  • Battery: 5,000mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

7. Oppo Reno 10x Zoom

phones with 8GB of RAM -- Oppo Reno 10x Zoom rear glass

The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom is a powerhouse, featuring all the specs we've come to expect from a 2019 flagship. It comes with a powerful Snapdragon 855 processor and either 6 or 8GB of RAM.

Not to be outdone in the camera department, you also get a triple rear camera with the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom, including a telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and up to 10x hybrid zoom that gives the phone its name. Housed in the shark fin pop up is the front-facing camera.

The Reno 10x Zoom is extremely versatile and takes great photos, but this phone has more to offer than advanced photography. It checks all the right boxes thanks to the great screen, great battery life, and high-end performance. It's an excellent phone all around.

Oppo Reno 10x Zoom specs:

  • Display: 6.6-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 855
  • RAM: 6/8GB
  • Storage: 128/256GB
  • Cameras: 48, 13, and 8MP
  • Front camera: 16MP
  • Battery: 4,065mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

8. Redmi K20 Pro

Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro - bezel-less smartphone

The Redmi K20 Pro is a high-end phone on a budget. It's powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset and comes with as much as 8GB of RAM. The phone offers a full-screen experience thanks to its use of a pop up camera and features an in-display fingeprint scanner.

You'll find a triple rear camera setup on the back of the handset featuring wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto sensors. The phone also offers a 4,000mAh battery that supports fast charging, has an eye-catching design, and comes with up to 256GB of storage. Perhaps its biggest drawback is the software experience, which is far from brilliant. Xiaomi's skin leaves a lot to be desired, but you can always change the look and feel of the OS and add new features with a launcher like Nova.

Indian consumers can get the Redmi K20 Pro via Flipkart below. The handset is also available in Europe, but under a different name — the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro. However, it only comes with 6GB of RAM.

Redmi K20 Pro specs:

  • Display: 6.39-inch, Full HD+
  • SoC: Snapdragon 855
  • RAM: 6/8GB
  • Storage: 64/128/256GB
  • Cameras: 48, 13, and 8MP
  • Front camera: 20MP
  • Battery: 4,000mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

There you have it, folks. These are our picks for the best phones with 8GB RAM, although there are quite a few others out there to choose from. These include the Honor 20 Pro, Razer Phone 2, Nubia Red Magic 3, and many more. If you want high RAM on the cheap, there's also the Pocophone F1, but the version with 8GB of RAM is exclusive to certain markets and kind of hard to get.
