OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro: All the rumors in one place (Updated September 24)

Update, September 24, 2019 (11:05 AM ET): We now know pretty much everything about the OnePlus 7T, which will launch this week. We also know quite a bit about the OnePlus 7T Pro which will launch in a few weeks. Check out all the latest confirmed (and rumored) info below!

Ever since OnePlus revealed the OnePlus 3T in November 2016, the company has stuck to a reliable release schedule: a brand new smartphone launched in the spring and then a "T" update model launched in the fall. This year will be no different as we'll see a OnePlus 7T in September and the OnePlus 7T Pro in October.

However, things have changed a bit for OnePlus. The very existence of the OnePlus 7 Pro is different for the company as it's the first time we've seen a "Pro" model smartphone on the brand's roster. Not only that, but we also have a minor third phone launched this year: the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, which is only available in select locations.

We also know that OnePlus is going to launch its first television this September, appropriately called the OnePlus TV. This is a brand new product category for the company and could be a big risk, considering how cutthroat the TV market is.

All of this leads up to the big question: what can we expect from the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro?

We know for certain that OnePlus is referring to the two new smartphones as the "7T series," as confirmed by the official OnePlus Twitter account. Check out that tweet below:

With that in mind, it's a given that we can expect the new devices to launch as the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro.

As far as release dates go, OnePlus is changing things up on that end by doing two launches in two parts of the world. The first launch will come on September 26 in India and the second will happen on October 10 in London.

OnePlus hasn't directly confirmed which devices will launch on which dates, but we are fairly certain that the OnePlus 7T will launch in September (alongside the OnePlus TV, which the company confirmed) and the OnePlus 7T Pro will launch in October. We can infer this because OnePlus has been hyping up the OnePlus 7T relentlessly on Twitter, while not mentioning the 7T Pro much at all. We expect the time between the two launch dates to be filled with OnePlus 7T Pro hype.

OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro: Design

OnePlus 7 Pro back with selfie camera open

In general, we didn't expect the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro to look that different from their predecessors considering the "T" line is just an iterative update. That said, Ishan Agarwal leaked an image in December 2018 of what might have been a meeting at OnePlus' headquarters. During the meeting, a OnePlus executive reportedly presented a new phone design. According to Agarwal, the design was of the OnePlus 7T.

As a refresher, here's the image:

Serial leaker Evan Blass seemingly corroborated the above design and shared sketches of a OnePlus phone with a round camera housing. If this camera housing is indeed a hump as the original leak suggested, it could mean OnePlus will deliver a large primary sensor. After all, 64MP and 108MP sensors have already been announced. Check out Blass' image below.

Eventually, reliable leaker @OnLeaks pushed out several CAD-based renders of the OnePlus 7T, OnePlus 7T Pro, and OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition.

Here are the renders of the OnePlus 7T:

And here are the OnePlus 7T Pro and 7T Pro McLaren Edition renders:

You can quickly see that the OnePlus 7T Pro renders don't look at all different from the OnePlus 7 Pro, with the same pop-up selfie cam, notch-less display, and triple rear camera setup in a vertical orientation.

However, the OnePlus 7T looks very different from the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 6T from 2018. The biggest difference is the circular rear camera system with three lenses.

Eventually, OnePlus itself confirmed the design of the OnePlus 7T with two images of its own that look remarkably similar to the ones from @OnLeaks but in the Nebula Blue colorway of the OnePlus 7 Pro:

Both the official renders and the CAD-based leaks appear to confirm that none of these new devices will have a headphone jack, which isn't too surprising since OnePlus appears to have fully abandoned the beloved port with the launch of the OnePlus 6T.

OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro: Specs and features

There have been numerous leaks of supposed specs for the 7T series over the past few months, but the most recent leak from CompareRaja seems to be the most reliable. The specs were backed up by @OnLeaks, giving them even more credibility.

According to those leaks, we can expect both phones to offer a Snapdragon 855 Plus processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage (along with a 128GB option for the vanilla model), and an optical in-display fingerprint sensor.

Both phones are allegedly going to have a 16MP selfie camera, with the only difference being the housing: the 7T will house the sensor in the waterdrop notch while the 7T Pro will house it in the pop-up mechanism.

On the back, the phones could offer very similar camera specs. Both will definitely feature triple-lens setups with the sensors possibly being a 48MP main camera (f/1.6), a telephoto camera, and a 16MP ultra-wide snapper.

The OnePlus 7T appears to take many of its specs from the OnePlus 7 Pro, which will make it a powerhouse with few compromises.

With the telephoto camera, rumors suggest the 7T could have a 12MP 2x shooter and the 7T Pro could have an 8MP 3x version. This would make the 7T Pro the better choice for photos — but only just barely. It's very interesting that OnePlus is probably going to have these systems be so similar.

Editor's Pick

The OnePlus 7T might ship with a 3,800mAh battery, while the OnePlus 7T Pro is tipped to pack a 4,085mAh battery. We are certain that both devices will have faster charging capabilities than any of their predecessors, as confirmed by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau in an interview with TechRadar. OnePlus will market this faster charging as Warp Charge 30T.

"You can charge the phone at 23% faster speeds, even while using the device," Lau told TechRadar.

The popularity of the 90Hz display refresh rate on the OnePlus 7 Pro is likely to make its way to to the OnePlus 7T, thankfully. It's rumored that the 7T will have a 6.55-inch FHD+ OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, the Pro variant is apparently packing a 6.65-inch QHD+ OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate too.

Finally, we know for certain that both devices will launch with Android 10 out-of-the-box, as confirmed by the official OnePlus Twitter account.

OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro: Price and availability

OnePlus 7 Pro in window

Before the OnePlus 7 Pro, prices slowly increased year-over-year since the original OnePlus One's release. That changed with the OnePlus 7 Pro, which saw a more dramatic increase in pricing to $669, a $120 increase from the OnePlus 6T's starting price.

The good news is we shouldn't see an equally-dramatic price increase for the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro. Based on their predecessors' starting prices, we expect the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro to start at around the same prices. That means at least 499 pounds (~$600) for the OnePlus 7T and $669 for the OnePlus 7T Pro.

Price is a mystery for now, and we are inclined to believe that the devices won't be available in all locations.

However, there might be some big changes as far as availability for the devices go. Since the OnePlus 7T launch will take place in India, it's very possible that that device could be an Indian exclusive, at least at first (the OnePlus TV, which is getting announced that same day, is expected to follow this strategy).

Even if the 7T does get a wider release that day, we don't expect the OnePlus 7T Pro to hit all countries when it lands. We've seen a few leaks to suggest that the 7T Pro will not hit the United States, for example.

We won't know anything for certain until the launch events are done, but we are inclined to believe that OnePlus will be fracturing its product portfolio further than it ever has by only offering specific products in specific locations, rather than the "one product for everyone" strategy it's employed for years.
