10 best new Android games from January 2020!

Android gaming is getting bigger and better every month it seems and there is always a slew of new titles coming to Google Play. Whether you're a casual gamer or you want something with a bit more meat on its bones, there's usually a game coming out to suit everyone's taste. Some months are better than others, but there is usually at least one great new game on mobile every month. Let's take a look at the best new Android games from the last month! You can watch the videos on YouTube from previous months by clicking here! You can also check out our picks for the best new Android games for 2019 in the video above!

Age of Civilization II Europe

Price: $4.29

Age of Civlization II Europe is a strategy game and the second game in the mobile franchise. The game plays a lot like Risk, the board game. Players use military tactics to expand their influence across Europe. You deal with things like peace treaties, war, revolutions, and more. There is also a bunch of building features to customize the game. The graphics won't win any awards. However, its relatively cheap price tag and deep mechanics make it a good game.

Era Combat

Price: Free to play

Era of Combat is a first person shooter similar to games like Shadowgun. It uses sci-fi elements to extend the game play and players get a lot of fun stuff like jet packs. The game includes three versus three PvP battles, various achievements, in-game events, and more. The pacing is quite fast and it's an entertaining shooter overall. It probably won't dethrone the genre leaders, but it seems like a decent game. It's in early access beta right now so expect even more stuff when the game fully launches.

Great Escapes

Price: Free

Great Escapes is a room-escape puzzle game. It plays like most escape room games. Players are dropped into an environment and solve puzzles in order to escape. The game is in very early beta and it doesn't have some things like a hint system yet. However, it has a lot of potential and the graphics are actually not half bad. The beta is free and we're unsure what the game will cost upon its release. Keep this one on your radar if you like puzzle games or room escape games.

Spies in Disguise

Price: Free to play

Spies in Disguise launched in late December so we saved it for our January list. It's a family-friendly endless runner game with elements from the Spies in Disguise movie. It has cameos from a bunch of characters from the movie along with your standard endless runner mechanics. The game won't blow anybody's mind with its game play, but it's solid, friendly, and familiar. The graphics are colorful and there are no offensive themes that we could detect. People seem to like it aside from the occasional crash bug when watching video ads.

Tetris

Price: Free / $4.99

EA launched the official Tetris game a while back and then took it down. This new version of Tetris is the new official mobile release of the game. As such, it's a fairly basic Tetris experience. You start the game, put down the blocks, and the game gets harder the longer you survive. It played fine in our testing, although the simpleness of the game left a little bit to be desired. We'd like to start on tougher difficulties if we want to and some other little niceties would be appreciated. Aside from the bare-bones implementation, it's a solid and faithful Tetris port with no micro-transactions aside from the premium upgrade for $4.99.

Vodobanka

Price: Free

Vodobanka is a strategy game with a SWAT team. Each level has a building with hostiles, hostages, and other dangerous scenarios. Players pick the path the SWAT team takes and hope they don't end up killing a hostage. The game includes a bunch of levels, simple graphics, and easy controls. However, the levels do get harder as you progress. There is the occasional bug with troop movements and for some reason, my SWAT team doesn't save the hostages right away like they should. However, aside from those minor issues, the game is quite fun and it's also completely free.

Wanna Survive

Price: $2.99

Wanna Survive is a 2D survival-strategy game. It plays like a strategy RPG of sorts. You and your opponents are on a game board. You move around, kill your opponents, and try not to die. The game includes a synergy system with your characters for more powerful attacks along with gear and other power-ups. It gets more interesting because character death is permanent and you have to ration your supplies to keep your people healthy. It's a surprisingly deep game and it's also relatively cheap with no in-app purchases or ads.

Warface: Global Operations

Price: Free to play

Warface: Global Operations is another new FPS title. Unlike Era Combat, this one focuses a little more on realism like Call of Duty style games. It's a mobile release of the PC version of the game, but keep in mind it's not a faithful port. Players team up and fight each other like most shooters. The pacing is good and the controls are serviceable and standard for the FPS genre. However, this one seems a little more plagued with bugs than some others. We expect it to get better as time goes but it's not too bad if you want to try it now.

War Tortoise 2

Price: Free to play

War Tortoise 2 is definitely something a little bit different. In fact, we're a little surprised there are two of these games. In any case, players ride atop a literal war tortoise where they build defenses, conquer new parts of the map, and recruit new units to help the invasion. It's an idle game so there really isn't a lot for players to physically do. You simply put your pieces down and they act accordingly. This one is still in early beta so there are some bugs here and there. It should be more stable on its release and it didn't play poorly during our testing.

World Robot Boxing 2

Price: Free to play

World Robot Boxing 2 is a new fighting game with robots. The first game was actually rather popular for a long time and the second has a chance to continue the tradition. Players collect various robots from various countries around the world and then fight them. It's a little more involved than many free-to-play fighters and we like that. The controls are decent and the graphics are pretty good even if they're a little more cartoonish than the first one. Some other features include four dozen signature moves, 12 arenas to play in, and a leaderboard. This one is decent even if it still needs a little polish.
