Vine successor Byte has finally launched on the Google Play Store (and iOS), delivering six second looping videos on a new platform.
It seems like the app isn't available in every region though (I can't download it in South Africa, for example), and it isn't available on APKMirror as of writing. But redditor Grochocinski has a solution if you simply must have it. Do be warned that this isn't the official way of getting the app though.
- Download Split APK Installer from the Play Store
- Download the three Byte APKs from the redditor's Google Drive account here
- Open Split APK Installer, choose the Install APKs option, and select the three APKs to install Byte
It's worth noting that Google Play Protect flashed a warning, claiming that Byte might be harmful. I was able to select "install anyway" and the app seemed to work just fine. But you should probably wait for the app to officially hit your region if you want the utmost security then.
In any event, Byte's launch comes as TikTok enjoys an explosion in popularity. It's too soon to tell whether Byte will be able to successfully steal the short video crown from TikTok, but it definitely seems like the official Vine successor took a very long time to launch.
