LG has just revealed the LG U, a mid-range smartphone that comes in a familiar packaging. From the front, the new 5.2-inch handset is essentially the same as that of its Google-branded device from last year, the Nexus 5X.
Featuring almost identical weight and dimensions as the 5X (35 grams and 147.6 x 73.2 x 7.7 mm compared to the 5X's 136 grams and 147 x 72.6 x 7.9 mm), 2 GB of RAM and the same size 1080p display, a comparison was inevitable. However, LG has changed a few of the internal components.
The LG U boasts a 1.14 GHz octa-core processor, compared to the hexa-core Snapdragon 808 from the 5X and a non-removable 3000 mAh battery, compared to the Nexus' 2700 mAh cell.
The rear of the device is where the difference between last year's product can really be seen, though, with a glossy back, new camera configuration and the removal of the fingerprint scanner.
The LG U features a 13 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front facing camera – while the 5X housed 12.3 MP and 5 MP cameras – microSD card support, and it runs Android Marshmallow out of the box.
