At this stage it would be an understatement to say that a lot is riding on the Galaxy S8. Samsung has already set the hype train in motion though, promising it will have a "slick design", an "improved camera" and an "enhanced artificial intelligence service". But in the face of the Note 7 recall demolishing all of Samsung Mobile's Q3 profits, the company needs to pull out all the stops if the Galaxy S8 is going to right the good ship Galaxy. Here's what we know so far.

Samsung has come out and publicly denied rumors that the Galaxy S8 will see an accelerated launch. The most logical prediction currently is that the Galaxy S8 release date will be February 26. This is the Galaxy S series' usual time slot on the main press day prior to MWC 2017. Availability will likely be within 2-3 weeks of the announcement.

If Samsung does go all out on the Galaxy S8 it's reasonable to believe that the price might go up due to increased component costs. However, Samsung might be tempted to keep the price right where it is – or even reduce it slightly – in order to attract as many consumers as it possibly can…
Regardless, Samsung needs to recoup money as quickly as possible and the S8 is their flagship, so a high price tag is guaranteed. Depending on whether multiple storage options are introduced, you can at least expect to pay the same as the current Galaxy S7 range.
That would be $669 for an unlocked regular version with 32 GB of storage or $769 for a 32 GB Edge variant. It must be noted that some rumors put the base storage option on the Galaxy S8 at 64 GB, so it that pans out to be true it may potentially add a little to the price. The same goes for the possible addition of dual cameras and an iris scanner.
Samsung Galaxy S8: specs
Of course, none of the Galaxy S8 specs that follow are confirmed, but the rumor mill is starting to see some consistency in the claims being made. The current crop of Galaxy S8 spec rumors doing the rounds include a 5.5-inch 4K Super AMOLED display, Snapdragon 830 or Exynos 8895 chipset and 6 GB of RAM. There are also (older) rumors of a 5.1-inch QHD version of the S8 as well.

The Galaxy S8 has also been rumored to feature an improved dual-lens camera. According to the latest reports out of South Korea, Samsung is opting for two 16 MP cameras on the back with an 8 MP front-facing camera, but you can pretty much pick any number between 12 and 30 and you'll find a report to match. Samsung is, however, rumored to be working on a new camera with a super-wide f/1.4 aperture.

Very little is yet know about the "slick design" recently promised by Samsung's vp of mobile communications. At this point we can't say if Samsung has a major design overhaul up its sleeve or if the Galaxy S8 will follow the same refinement trajectory we've been seeing since the Galaxy S6.
One interesting Galaxy S8 rumor is that all four sides of the device will feature curved glass, including the top and bottom. Another rumor claims there will be two Galaxy S8 options in different sizes – 5.1 inches and 5.5 inches – and that they will both feature dual-screen curves like the S7 Edge.
Other rumored design changes include the removal of the physical home button, the resurrection of a removable battery (which relates to a theory circulating about the cause of the Galaxy Note 7 battery fires), and even a full-screen, bezel-less display.

Samsung's vp of mobile communications also went on record promising an "enhanced artificial intelligence service" for the Galaxy S8. While this might have a connection to Samsung's recent acquisition of AI firm Viv Labs, it might also be a little too late in the game to completely replace S Voice or even just integrate Viv's tech into Samsung's existing voice assistant.
The Galaxy S8 is also expected to support Google's Daydream VR platform and will of course make the shift to USB Type-C, meaning it will also be compatible with Samsung's newest Gear VR. The Galaxy S8 is also rumored to sport an iris scanner and will likely get a UI redesign similar to that found on the short-lived Note 7.
