- In a new marketing stunt, Samsung visited a tiny town called Appel in the Netherlands.
- Samsung reps drove around in vans handing out Samsung smartphones to Appel residents (there are only 312 of them).
- Now, Samsung and Appel are best friends. Get it?
Who doesn't love a good marketing stunt, especially when it's at the expense of Android's arch-rival Apple? Recently, we saw Huawei handing out power banks to Apple fans as they waited in line for the new iPhone XS. The card included with the bank said, "You'll need it." Zing! Pow!
Now, Samsung is getting in on the fun with a new marketing stunt that took place in Appel. No, that's not a typo: the town is called Appel, and it's a small village with only 312 residents in the Netherlands.
Samsung reps drove around in vans, handing out Android smartphones to 50 of Appel's residents. Now, Samsung and Appel are best friends. Get it? LOL! Zing! Woo!
Ok, this one isn't nearly as good as the Huawei one, but whatever. Check out the video documenting the stunt below (annoyingly shot in portrait mode):
The Appel residents are clearly happy to each get a free Samsung Galaxy S9, with some in total shock at the news. Samsung even got some of the residents themselves to hand out the free devices, including the blonde girl in the YouTube still above.
But my absolute favorite is this guy:
You and me both, bro. Where's my free Samsung Galaxy S9?
